I spotted this Philadelphia and Reading Railway lantern in a clients basement today. $10.00 later it was mine. :)

This version was in use from 1906 - 1908;

I put this night light display case together over the winter using old tin trains & related train set items.

The lantern at upper left was my great grandfathers on my mother's side, he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway.

The globe all cleaned up, a few bubbles & I love the old wavy glass;

A clear globe makes it a “watchman” or interior lamp. Other colors would be for for train signal lights for departing, arrival and underway on each end of the train.

I worked on the railroad for 40 years. The last 20 years were with Canadian Pacific. The tools that we used were so archaic when I first started it was a wonder we actually got anything done. That lantern I'm guessing was used many, many years. Railroads were notoriously slow to make changes. That's a really nice find. I wish I would have kept more of that kind of stuff when I had the chance. Steve

I have this hangin from the ceiling in the bedroom. It's an Embury #2 Air Pilot. I actually blow it off and use it when the power goes out. It works quite well, too.

I have a red L&N, my wife found it at a antique store and got it for my birthday several years ago.

If the red globe is the same matching name brand as the lantern, that's worth a good little chunk. A lot of time they will have a generic unmarked globe.....especially the red ones because everybody wants red.

The globe on mine looks to be the generic one.

My great grandfathers lamp is also 'generic' glass & tin without a RR logo in either. The glass is also clear since he was a Conductor, checking tickets, etc.

This one in addition to the globe also has P & R Ry stamped into the metal top.

I can post a photo of the top after it is done soaking to clean it up.

What do you consider a"good little chunk."?

If it's original and in good shape probably around 300. It would have to have the corresponding correct mark on the red globe. Mine is all original with the Embury logo on the globe, but it's not as valuable as an original red one.
