Since I have owned my car it has not had a rug. I have been prepping the floor for my new rug I bought at Carlisle a couple years ago. I have laid it out and it is going surprisingly well so far. The back is in and even got the seat belts in. the side panels and the seat that was redone a while ago. Looks great. I have not trimmed anything up front yet and I'm a little stumped about the placement of the rug in the area of the windshield washer foot pump. Does the rug even go up that high on the firewall? Do I remove the pump and mount it on top of the rug? A pic of the area would help alot. Thanks in advance.

I would think the switch is mounted to the floor under the carpet. Cut a small X in the carpet for the switch to locate and then cut a circle for
for the foot pedal to go thru.

You have a manual washer foot pump per your description.

Post a photo of your foot pump.

My guess is it goes on top of the carpet. But maybe a hole through carpet, any trim ring on the foot pump?

I should have the post more closely. I thought he was talking about head light dimmer switch.

I just did a Carpet in my 66 and honestly it was a challenge for front carpet to cover everything and the plastic drivers foot pad to be what I consider “too far forward” almost like ACC made the carpet too short under the dash area. As for the foot well pump- that’s above the headlight dimmer switch and mine would had never covered that. My 72 Demon with factory floor does cover the ww foot well pump. Again don’t be surprised that the carpet is like 4-6” too short. If you pull the carpet forward to cover that area it’s short on the overlap with the rear section and looks odd (plastic foot pad)

There is no trim ring on the pump. The pump is above the high beam switch in the same general location. I know what I need to do for the high beam switch. I'll get a picture of it later.

The carpet slips under the pump up to the screws and under the heater core. I just install at least my 100th carpet and never had to trim the front. Also don't trim the side to much the door sill must hold it on top of the pinch weld.

The front carpet must overlap the rear it doesn't matter how much. Slip it front under the heater and washer pump as far as you can. I did not remove the pump or heater to install the carpets. The sill plates are the last thing I installed.

There may be more pictures in this thread. If not pm me for pictures of the carpet at the pump.

Finally paint

I discovered years ago to use a soldering iron to make the holes for seat belts etc. Much easier with better results.

The solder gun sounds like a great Idea. I'll have to pick up an old gun at a flea market or yard sale. If I was to melt the carpet to my sons new gun he would probably brand me with it. LOL. His size my age I am not delivering the spankings anymore. When he gets mad I am off to the safe space in the house to stand behind his mom. She'll kick his ***.

No need to mess up an iron or gun. Hold a tapered punch in a vice grip and heat tip with propane torch. Makes a perfect hole.

Although it is a molded carpet for a stick car it does need to be trimmed at the sill plates. The piece that overlaps the back has a flaw from the manufacturer where the edge has some damage but it will be under the seat so I'm not to concerned about it. If you can send me a couple of pics of the foot pump area that would be great. I'm still cleaning up the kick panels and sill plates. I have to cut out the hole for the shifter too which scares the hell out of me. It will be my last step in the installation. Thanks

I had to trim at the sill plate also but do that last and make sure there is enough to cover the pinch welds

I just put one in a couple months ago and I had to trim the top edge a couple inches straight across. I also had to trim a little on each sill plate side, and a little by the kick panels. Not sure about the washer fluid pump. Ill check

I opened the door and took a couple pictures. They are not the best. I didn't trim the front at all but every manufacture is different. as you can see the mat is at the front of the floor right where it turns up. I wish I could have went farther front. That is where the mat it is suppose to be. Usually the column plate is covered more.

I had the most trouble getting the piece to fit on the console. Anybody got any hints?

Thanks for the pics. I now know I have some adjusting to do. My mat isn't quite up that far. I didn't feel a gap under the pump to slide the rug under it. Did you have to loosen its mounting screws top create room and then tighten them down?

No I just pulled it away and slid it under. It pulls away enough and it sprung back. You can loosen the screws a little to give more room

Whats nice is that the pump will hold the carpet in place at the top edge

I was able to get it under the pump late last night......Didn't get much further. Hopefully by the end of the week I can have it in and my seats back in the front.

Man that looks great
Thanks. I have to agree. Especially for an IT guy. Next project is winter project. Take out front and rear glass for a headliner install. I might get the glass out and hire a pro for the headliner.

Was going to put my kick panels in and new floor mats as the finishing touches for the rug install but apparently UPS has lost my shipment. My mats should've been here last Friday when they were on a truck for delivery. Now there is no delivery date status listed. I contacted the company I ordered the mats from and now UPS reports is reporting an investigation is under way to locate my parcel. Now I get to sit and wait.....Awesome

I use a gasket punch to make the holes for the seatbelts. Heat the end of it with a propane torch and push it through. It makes a perfect circle hole and it wont fray.
Same goes for the dimmer hole. It makes such a clean hole that the plastic grommet is not needed.

I just installed a carpet in my swinger. It was a strange one because it was pre-trimmed. Seriously, I had to do no trimming at all and it fit perfect. Never seen one like it before. I bought it back in 2002 from Hardens, who is no longer in business.

I think I bought mine at Carlisle a couple of years ago from a company called Trim Parts. It was a molded carpet but there was plenty of cutting to do.....I heated up my soldering iron for my bucket seat holes and fought with the seat belt holes with an awl and blade. Took a while but got everything installed. Final results came out great. Headliner is next...Not sure when though, probably a winter project .
