Found your thread.....will follow. sgrip65

I put a 65 horn ring in my 64 just cause I think they look much nicer. If you are looking for a vintage, as in 1964-65 AC setup send me a pm because I took one out of my 64.

Very nice car, by the way. I will be watching your progress if you keep up this thread.

Picture #1. While installing the instrument cluster I noticed the spring looking contraption, it looks like it may be a grounding lug/strap,spring, does anyone know anything about this thing?

Pic #2. I also found this under the instrument cluster area, can't remember if it was on a ledge of the lower dash or fell onto the carpet when I removed the cluster.

Pic#3. I have installed the dash pad with dash cap installed, finally!

Pic#4. I have masked and painted the other dash bezels as best I can, don't have the extra coin to send them off and have them plated and detailed like the cluster bezel.

Pic#5. The steering column is finally together, new TS switch, switch connector, lower column tube seal, and steering coupler rebuild kit.

I removed the dash speaker, it was deteriorated and serving no purpose, I did buy a 6 X 9 speaker to replace it, but it's bulkier and will have to have some spacers or something to get it to fit and clear the nonfunctional original heater controls. I think I'll follow Suregrip65's lead and send the radio down to Florida to be converted to Am/Fm, USB, and bluetooth.

That helps secure that lug from the gauge, which also happens to be for the IVR, which is incorporated within the gas gauge.

It’s the same clip as in your 1st post; probably from when the car was assembled.

Nice work! I’ve sent several radio’s down to Taymans including the one that goes in my my 47 Dodge sedan. The other A Body ones I had converted I sold since I decided to go with a touchscreen in the 65

Thanks for the info, is there a live 5 volts on the lug? I wish I taken a better look when I had it apart. I looked and looked for a second hole for the other clip but never found one, weird setup, don't Ya think?, anyway I didn't want to button things up without knowing what it was and where it came from.

Oh, I'm in Covington, about 35 miles from ATL down 20 east.

Cool. My sister went to Oxford and them Emory. I've been to Covington a lot. We should meet up sometime.

Ya know, I was dusting the motor off today and piddlin', I thought the same thing! :) The only black engine bays should be on black cars, IMHO. It's like looking into the black hole of Calcutta, or my ex's heart, samo-samo.
Tony DeFeo of Uncle Tony's Garage seems to like WHITE engine bays because the white paint reflects light and makes stuff easier to see.
Seems odd though if the outer body is another color.

Probably use black to cover up some crap, I think it should be body color Myself.

I installed the new instrument cluster and steering column, BUT ( there's always a BUT), Got the motor cranked and running and noticed the ammeter is discharging, one of the two lugs on the back of circuit board for the ammeter on the back of the cluster bezel clearly is labeled RED, and that's the way I hooked them up, probably have to pull the cluster to get to the ammeter connections and verify it.

I tried installing the steering column into the coupler, dummy Me didn't test fit the new shoes over the new pin, so the column will have to come out also to check the pin.
to see if it's boogered up on the ends.

So, all in all, three steps forward and two and nine tenths steps back !

OK, so when I cranked the motor the other day, the ammeter reads discharge, after looking at the wiring diagram, there's really no way to explain this unless I hooked the ammeter wires up backwards, and I was positive I didn't, after looking at the wiring diagram for the 65 Dart again, I pulled the inst bezel out again, well hell, guess what, the wires were on correctly EXCEPT ! someone had been in there before and for some reason had cut the red and black ammeter wires about 10 inches back and then spliced them back, You guessed it, they spliced the black lead they cut off to the red ammeter wire and visa versa on the red! damn, any way I put it back together and all's well.
I have also figured out the problem with the steering shaft pin and the shoe's not fitting, when I painted the steering column the pin got sprayed with some black paint and I forgot to wipe the excess off before sticking it in the car.
