Stop in for a cup of coffee

We have been experiencing an odd rapid beat water hammer in this house for the past 3 years when the main feed water pressure increases and everything is shut off from flowing.

I have had several plumbing experts look at the system and none could come up with an answer.

Last week, the water company changed out our meter and it happened when the guy doing it was here. He said it’s the check valve just after the meter is hanging up when opening and then slamming shut repeatedly when the pressure increases. Sounds like someone playing a rapid beat on the drums.

Today I took apart the check valve and is was definitely hanging up. Cleaned it all up and replaced the o-rings. One was distorted over the seal plunger.

All quiet now. :)

flash flooding in some areas... Mostly the north side just under Wisconsin border...

They are telling people not to use the water for drinking or washing until after the flooding is down and then some areas will check the wells to make sure the septic system didn't contaminate them...

We've had some steady medium rain for a while in spurts, but no flooding around by me... Plus I'm at the top of a big hill with a creek in my yard that takes the water down hill into the stream in the forest preserve that dumps into the Cal Sag River and that goes to the Chicago River eventually...

My creek is usually dry and only runs when it rains... Very rarely will it flow over half full, only when we get some good downpours...
Sounds like our spring and most of our summer.

That would be Kasler concrete under the dirt, weeds, and debris. Tijuana on the left, US on the right, and the Pacific straight ahead. The flat lands were covered in that funny lookin' edible grass, Asparagus I think it's called :D. I heard some of our crew picked some on a frequent basis .

Sometimes you gotta find the right guy...

Sometimes you gotta find the right guy...
Or get lucky. It never happened when any of the others were here. Even though I showed them videos...they were stumped.

This guy was at least able to witness it directly and then figure it out.

I am a bit shocked tonight, maybe heavily shocked. This is a little personal, but still, it is what it is. You guys know I am messing with this ancestry thing, and I am adopted and does not know too much about my biological side. So, I am building 2 trees, my biological tree, and my adoptive. The shocking thing is that my sixth great grandmother on my adoptive side is the same as my seventh great grandmother on my biological side. It is a very peculiar feeling, in the sense that when you are adopted you get to love your parents as much as a child love his/her biological mom and dad. No difference there. But, still, when you know you are adopted, you also know that there are no blood relation. Most likely nothing. Well, I use to joke about it, that we are all related when we go back to Adam and Eve. And that is pretty much the personal feeling I have had about the whole thing. It was so far back if it was anything, that it was nothing to think about. Now I have all the names in between, and everything. And suddenly I am biological related to my adoptive mother.
Shocking to say the least.
