Stop in for a cup of coffee

I have a huge problem in my yard now that the weeds are drying out and getting yellow, and that is the goat heads. The thorny little basterds that are just everywhere and absolutely caking the tires on the mower. They hurt like hell to step on.

I am thinking of torching them, like just burning the whole field and then try to sweep them up or vacuum them up.

Pretty big job though

Are Goat Heads the same thing as sand burs ?

Devised a little something to deal with them at the sandy lawn at the Florida property.

Pretty sure sand burrs grow vertically.

The ones I have grow like a vine and they grow really tight to the ground to choke out any competing weed or plant

They reseed very aggressively

On the vine they are big and easy to see but once they dry, they sharpen and can puncture mower or bike tires easily.

They are literally a pain, and stick to your shoes and track everywhere.

Yeah those look like the same plants as the sand burs. Sand burs have little hooks that stick in your feet if you step on them. Hurt like hell and real hard to get the barbs out of your feet.

For starters put old cotton T Shirts on the lawn tractor tires to drive over them and pick them up while mowing.

Next I made a 2 foot wide x 8 inch diameter cardboard tube (used for round cement footing forms from Lowes) and covered them with 3/4" tall cut pile carpet. Put a T Handle steel handled frame on it so I can roll it over the yard by hand to pick up the sand burs. That actually worked really good.

Take a wire brush and sweep off the burs from the carper tube when they get built up, then go again.

Then one of the last things I got was a push type 22" bagging lawn mower for catching the burs and picking them up too while mowing.

If you can get the bur seeds picked up then they won't regrow the next crop coming up.

Good Monday morning MOPAR people!!
Busy day yesterday, chasing down a recharging issue that I've had for awhile.
Did some painting, and fixed the rollers in the rear quarter windows.
Today is the last work day. Going to do some odds and ends left and call it done.
I have a few parts coming in that were deemed wrong. I'll do them as I get them.
All in all its been a great time!!

I am a bit shocked tonight, maybe heavily shocked. This is a little personal, but still, it is what it is. You guys know I am messing with this ancestry thing, and I am adopted and does not know too much about my biological side. So, I am building 2 trees, my biological tree, and my adoptive. The shocking thing is that my sixth great grandmother on my adoptive side is the same as my seventh great grandmother on my biological side. It is a very peculiar feeling, in the sense that when you are adopted you get to love your parents as much as a child love his/her biological mom and dad. No difference there. But, still, when you know you are adopted, you also know that there are no blood relation. Most likely nothing. Well, I use to joke about it, that we are all related when we go back to Adam and Eve. And that is pretty much the personal feeling I have had about the whole thing. It was so far back if it was anything, that it was nothing to think about. Now I have all the names in between, and everything. And suddenly I am biological related to my adoptive mother.
Shocking to say the least.

My younger son wanted me to join Ancestry.com... When I looked at the sight, they didn't know the difference between my dad and my grandpa....

I know at least that much... Why would I pay to join the sight so they can sell my information to others and not have any new information for me???? :realcrazy: :icon_fU:

Think my dad did it when it was free, not sure. I have all the info on CD roms and boxes of documents/pictures, glade he identified who was on each photo. no one wanted it. I have some updates to do to it also.

Kind of a messed up story. I guy I purchase NOS stuff from did a 23 and Me DNA test, pretty cool right! A few months later gets summoned to court for 18 years of child support for a kid he had no idea about. They contact the other members that are a match!

Or give your DNA profile to the FBI to put in their database.... :icon_fU:

There's always a catch...
