I was just curious if anyone had the exact specs on the solid cams that were used in the D-Darts and if anyone had any recommendations on where to get one, or to have ground. I am not interested in anything from comp cams, so please don't send me to them. Every other cam manufacturer I am okay with.

This is going into my 273 that should be able to support the D-Dart cam.

I didn't know so I looked it up on Google and guess what? The first link came back here to FABO.

"hi, these are from dodge tech service bulletin, dated april 18, 1966. 284 duration, both int and exh. valve lift is .495 int, .505 exh. events are Io 30 close 74 . exh, is 74 eo, 30 e c .overlap is 60 deg. lash is .013 int, .021 exh."

Thanks brother, I have found that info before, I just wanted to get second opinions along with who folks would recommend on grinding that cam, or if there is something similar on the open market

Give Jim at Racer Brown a call. He will set you up.

I gave Jim at Racer Brown all the specs for the D/Dart cam a few years ago. Not sure if he ever did anything with them. The problem was the cost associated with getting the cam profile masters made.

I appreciate it everyone, I will call Jim tomorrow and see what he has for me, I found another thread about an Erson solid cam that very similar to the D-Dart cam as well. I will keep you all posted.

Not to steal a good thread here but I have a question about grinding cams.

If you send in a core with smaller lift heights and smaller base circles- how does a machine shop “regrind” a cam larger?
For $79 they are not welding to your cam AND regrinding it. Anyone care to explain?

ZZ1 Gold Poly Metallic A twin to mine. 4 speed or automatic?

The cut down the base circle even more. (There is a limit of course.) If you take a peak at large roller cams, there base circle is nearly down to the maximum, practically sitting the lifter on the uncut portion of the cam.

That is correct, that is how they ground the cam on my early dodge hemi, old school methods of making them thump.

Yep. Interesting concept.

Originally it was an automatic, but someone started to convert it to a big block 4 speed swap I am guessing, I put it back to a hot 273 and a 727 to get it driving, but I am putting my 4 speed in it now, just got to find a 9.5 flywheel now. I was also able to find a perfect color match paint for the gold, I had one hell of a time finding a color match, but it matches an early 2000s Chyrsler color, Light Beige Metallic

Yes, it is a unusual color. Kind of green, kind of gold, kind of grey/silver. Mine was repainted with laquer over the original Poly and is faded bad. Looks like new under the trunk lid though. Back to our regularly scheduled program.

That is " 66 Project yard dart gt " on You tube. That little more than "stock 273 commando" wasn't enough power for you ? I had that equivilant big erson cam in my 273 ............It was a Dog ! but it had the low compression pistons in it .
.... The isky t-3 custom cam I put in my 65 Barracuda now would walk all over that big erson cam . Hands down ! start to finish. this new 273 commando I built has the dome pistons in it though. It Rocks ! it's a "Freak" !

My 273 currently has an Isky E-2 solid cam in it, and it is a pathetically weak, not only does it sound pretty wimpy, but it just doesn't pull worth a damn. The little engine is still pretty quick, but I think a serious step up in the cam and rear gear ratio will definitely wake the car up.

I saw your post on another thread about that big Erson cam, that has the specs of what I am ultimately looking for, I need a cam that sounds like it has a pair of testicles and get's up and goes in the higher RPMS. What are the specs on the Isky T-3 cam?

Off the shelf solid cams are tough to come by. I searched on Summit and blocked out Comp Cams and nothing I would want unless it's a race engine. DODGE 4.5L/273 Mopar small block LA Crane Cams Camshafts - Mechanical flat tappet Cam Style

I wasn't able to get ahold of Jim, but my good friend Don Johansen at Hard Cams is gonna grind it for me for $200 bucks. Hopefully I read him the specs correctly hahaha.
