Big Block Edelbrock limitations.

Heck tire technology has never been better. I’m still old school running a 14-32 slick but many of my friends have switched to radials and picked up well over .10

That would put my little small block in the 9.30’s or better with a solid lifter cam.

Most of our cars are running radials now, mono's/caltracs, in my view they are all soft on camshafts and mostly just bolt ootb stuff together and hope it works ok without really thinking properly of their combo and what works and doesn't.

There is another guy who runs a '68 Cuda who's got it together, been doing it for years, runs an all ally 540 wedge with -1's on alcohol, Rons toilet etc., 14x32 Hoosier tyre and has got it down to 8.70's@152, with a best of 8.66 so far, so its not all bad, but thats only 2 I can think of out of the many BB stroker motored cars that run like they should.

There is a 2900>3000lb strip car running a 14:1 572 wedge that runs 9.7's with a best of 9.66@131, I won't bother going into why its so slow especially on the mph but thats the sort of thing there is, others with 540's running 9.7>8's...I've learnt to keep quiet these days when I'm at the track watching and talking with them, cos they are trying.

For the most part, that hasn’t changed any in the last 39 years I’ve been messing with these things.

It’s been the same as long as I can remember.
Some people just have a better handle on how to put a combo together and make it work than others.

It’s rarely simply the sum of the pile of parts that makes a car run good.

However, it does seem like once the “car” is pretty well sorted out, you can put a variety of different motors in it and it’ll run a good number.

Yes I'm with that, thats probably more than half the issue

Mick who I know well posts on here sometimes ran a 440 Dart @ 12.5:1 with TRW pop ups, around 320cfm Eddy's, a .271@.050" .590" purple solid, (rather mild cam I thought), Victor int and a 950DP/1050 Dom with SS springs/dble adjust shocks and an Ultimate 5000 stall. He wasn't that far behind the stroker boys@ a best of 10.12@132, at 3150ish lbs and a best 60 of 1.36 I think. Shame he never took me up on my offer of my old 290@.050 solid which he could've had for no money, I think he could've hit a 9 with it. That car always stood out from the rest for me back a few years ago, thats how I got to know him.
