I was gone for a week moose hunting. The first couple of days were pretty bad weather wise and no moose were seen. Day three I saw a pretty good bull but could not get a clear shot so I passed on it. Last thing I want to do is wound one. Day 4 was different. The moose were answering the call. I shot an 8 pointer that weighed 505 lbs by the time I got it to the butcher. The other tag was filled by Ron with a 7 pointer that weighed 419 lbs at the butcher. Everybody got back safe and had a good time so I would say it was a very successful hunt.

Congrats, Jack! Just curious, what's moose taste like? I've never had any.

Sorry to say Rob but it doesn't taste like any other game I have had. I have had a lot of different wild meat and moose is by far my favorite. It is a mild taste that is closer to beef than deer. It is denser than beef, more like deer that way. Like most other wild meat it is very low in fat content and if you like your meat well done chances are that it will start to toughen up.

You're a murdering prick.

If you don't bring enough to share with everyone.
Good job on a clean, ethical kill!

That is awesome congratulations! Those are such massive interesting animals iv always wanted to go on a moose hunt. Is the weight after you field dressed it? That's alot of meat.

so many memories. The guys i go with are all too old now and i sure miss that trip every October.
Make sure you pull those giant tenderloins off before you take it to your butcher.
Congrats!

Awesome hunt! Moose and elk are up there on my list of favorite meats. Deer is prevalent here, so it’s a compromise!! Congratulations!

Nice harvest!
Its my understanding the moose population is considerably higher than here in manitoba.
Still many go and try their luck.
Lots of fly out hunting from here.

That is the weight after the hide is off, the legs cut to the knee and quartered for the butcher. Strangely enough, you as a non resident would have a much better chance of getting drawn for a moose tag here than I do. This was the first tag I have had in 18 years.

My butcher doesn't eat moose or deer. The tenderloins are safe with him.

How is the population doing there? Here in New England, we are starting to se a decline due to tick infestation. Hope they don't all die off.

It depends on where you go in the province. Up north there are moose running everywhere, down south not so much. Still, in zone 20 around my camp there is no shortage of them although the amount of tags is way down. Before the season I saw 11 different moose in 5 days around my stand and the one I shot was not any of those 11.

Moose is #1 in flavor ,2nd is elk.

Never been Moose hunting as you have to draw for them out here. It never occurrd to me that you could call them either.... although I did have a buddy that was bugling/cow calling for elk and a bull moose came in ! He couldnt shake that guy ! Moved all over the mtn and the moose would follow .

Oh yeah, during the rut they are quite easy to call in. I have brought them from over a kilometer away. Then again, I speak fluent moose. hehehe It is quite a thrill to bring in a huge bull. By the time he get to you he is so worked up he is either going to make love or fight. It all depends on what is there when he arrives.

We actually have quite afew Moose (Meese?)
In the Mtns around here. I see them from time to time . I had a Bull walk through our camp on his way to the lake.... just looked at us for a second then continued on into the water.
