Hey !

I posted earlier about an A body I was looking to buy (https://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/threads/65-the-good-bad-and-ugly.440132/) but after been jerked around for well over a month, I decided not to buy. Another deciding factor, that luckily my employer is transferring me back home to good ol' USA. So I've decided to save and buy locally when I get back home instead of paying the outrageous asking price, dealing with shipping, customs and re-import.

My goal is to get a turn key driver that I can drive mostly on a daily basis and then work on in spare time.

My question for all you is, as I really want an A body type, what's the current market like for these back home? I looked around at some of the adverts here in the forums seeing lots of darts but not seeing many A body Cuda's even Coronet's from same years and yeah and I'd maybe consider a Coronet (65-70) as well even though its a B-Body. Same thing on sites like bringatrailer. Also Colorado or Georgia is on the table and I'm not sure which is more car enthusiast friendly either ?

So any tips on the above and where to search is highly appreciated !

Congrats on getting to come home.
I would wait until you got settled back in the U.S. and check what the asking prices in your area.
A good selection of cars would be at Carlisle PA mopar show, next spring, or the Mopar Nationals in OH.
Plenty of cars, from resto projects, to trailer queens.
Also the for sale section on this site will give you an idea of pricing.

Just keep watching FABO and FBBO. You'll find something you like at some point. These sites are a treasure trove !

Thanks for those tips on the meets. Unbelievable the guy wanted 20k GBP which is about 22k USD and the condition of that 65 isn't worth 22k. Last week I get an email he just so made an executive decision to get it painted and then wanted me pay more on top of that. Didn't even ask first. Never fixed the kickdown or the linkage I asked to do, just adjusted the carb so in his words "ran smoother"! He even supposedly took it to a local mechanic but wouldn't send me on what work was done as I wanted to know before I went back over for the final purchase. Whatever, I'm out a couple hundred pounds for the holding fee but I could care less, more pissed off than anything else. Sorry had to rant LOL. Even Looked into shipping back to US when I go and that quote was 5,500k with a reputable insured shipper and they deal with customs, port authority and the paper war.

Agreed ! Starting looking over at FBBO seen quite a few Coronets there actually but that's second choice. Anyway either way it goes when I get what I want as a thanks for all the sound advice I've received gonna go gold. Least I can do to support the site.

There are always more cars for sale than buyers in general. Always plenty that are priced over the going market, always plenty that are too far away, wrong color, workmanship not up to snuff, etc. Like said, look on here and FBBO and some of the Facebook car sites specific to your interests be it A bodies or B bodies etc.
There are lots of cars out there, just take your time.

I do know where there is an original paint 340 S cuda that can be bought reasonable.
When you get into the states PM me and I will check if he still has it.

I know in my area (Central WI), 67 up A-bodies seem to be more rare, and higher priced on Craigs, even from this spring. I search out 200 miles from my zip. This spring, there were tons, and cheap..now anything I find is 6-7K for a rotted Wisconsin body. Maybe it happens every fall? Don't know. I can't really afford anything, but I'd make it happen if I found that unicorn. I've been wondering if I should go back on Facebook to see if there's more stuff on there. There was a '68 Valiant 4-door on Craigs 273 Auto for 3k with 50k? miles on it that had little rust this spring.. kick myself for not giving the wife the sad eyes for that car.

I'm not on facebook but if I understand correctly people selling cars on there too now ? That's a new one for me, dunno I'm too out of touch on the facebook thing I must be gettin old. Thanks for the infos though !

That's what I hear. I gave up FB about a year ago, but thinking about making a new account, not add any friends to it and use it for just looking at Mopar stuff. Facebook Marketplace and Mopar pages I guess.

ever use search tempest? supposedly everything on craigslist- not a part of craigslist. pick your home zip, type in info on unit wanted,go *** number miles from your zip and hit find. example. my zip is 62052, i hit cars/trucks, by owner, 66-76 dodge dart. hit go. it comes up with almost everything in that mileage radius by state/states. try it sometime.

prices are all over the place. how nice a driver do you want? a friend is selling this one. 318 ready to go.. pretty much what you said you wanted.. get in and drive it and play with little things it needs over time..

i'm sure he woudl go a little lower on price too.

Damn that looks nice from that pic ! I've got some Pm's to do once I get back home, it's not gonna be until Jan 2020 most likely, overseas move is a PITA. Actually luckily it isn't that far off. This is also gives me enough time to more research on A Bodies, market etc. To answer your question though it doesn't need to be a showroom type driver. Decent car, but I don't want a huge project until waaaaay later down the road as it'll take me a bit to do my garage setup. Things like a drum to disc conversion would be nice to have but not a deal breaker either. For the most part I want to keep whatever I get mostly in a somewhat original looking but with little modern mods. I care less about power window kits or stereo stuff as an example. So reliable and mostly mechanically sound as it can be. I hate doing sanding and blasting and body prep so something where rust isn't a huge issue is important to me. On that note initially paint isn't important either, just the rust I hate rust its such a PITA.

I wont go into detail about mine , not sure I want to sell it. And would be a stretch to daily drive.----
But , I d like to see a bunch of pics of Ireland , maybe you could post a few in the off topic thread or whatever .

My buddy has a 70 dart, 408 fresh trans, 4:10 gear.
Factory disk brakes, new paint for 15,000
It is a nice jump in and drive car.

when I was looking for one, I made a point system of things I wanted
so a 360 would be 10 points
a 340 7 and a 225 3
EL5 would be 10, EV2 would be 8
a bench would be 6 but buckets would be 2

this way, you can compare different cars and see which one comes closest to checking all the boxes

now, if your a good painter your points for paint my by closer then the points for the engine, it all depends on what you can/want to do yourself

Craigslist charges a couple bucks now to post a car for sale. It's pretty much dried up around here in Oklahoma. Facebook usually has a few A bodies listed. I just think it's harder to find them on Facebook since they can be listed on marketplace and/or on group pages.

When you get back you may want to take a look at some of the SW cars. Lots of rust freeArizona cars.

Did you see that white 69 dart posted this morning?? Omg dude that thing is beautiful and looks extremely clean. 14k asking price. Not sure on location

I went on Facebook marketplace on my break today. There is a lot more affordable stuff on there than craigslist. Seems you don't have to have a FB account to look around, but I assume you would have to in order to contact a seller, or have someone else with an account do it for you. I could work my way into a rocky marriage real quick on there.. a drunken Paypal credit buy would not be good. Probably better if I see something to run it through the wife's account the next day, lol.

just got off search tempest and found approx 61 67-76 darts priced from 2250-65000. sure some of those guys are ........ but some of the cars are not too badly priced for condition. maybe worth a look.

A guy just down the road from me had a 74 Scamp, new paint job but it wasn't to hide anything as you could tell it was really well kept. 318 with some mods but mostly factory...$13,000 was his asking price. Just needed a few interior pieces back in place (which were in the trunk).

This 1967 Dodge Dart GT - OLD Skool is for sale near Cleveland Ohio, 67 Dart w/ built 360 but it's definitely set up for racing...$20k.

The got hood pins "reminder" gave me a chuckle ! Sweet!

FB Marketplace has pretty much taken over CL around here and beyond. I still say majority of stuff on there is way overpriced, mainly poor projects. Closer to done cars will be more in line price wise, BUT you never know what they really are till you see in person.
I always like to buy from someone I know, or from someone that someone else knows that I know!!!
