I know what the 340 is as a motor and what it is known for, but people always ask if my Dart has a 340 in it? (pretty much every day) and WAY more than the Hemi question.
If I had a running 340 I'd sell it in a flash and build a bigger better Magnum and stouter transmission.
Or put the money towards something else.
Actually getting a little tired of that question.

Same with my Dusters. Car guys ask if it has a 350. Good car guys ask if it has a 340. LOL... Ironically, when we travel in my wife's '77 Ramcharger, I'm asked if it has a 318.... nope, 360.

I had a friend with ZERO tolerance, rude as heck. I asked him what his problem is? He assumed & said “Everybody should know bla bla bla ....” so I said to him, “Assume everybody knows nothing & you should remain calm to educate them nicely.” Which I knew was beyond him for more than two questions. LMAO. So I interrupted his angry retort and said, “Just make a sign, place it on the air cleaner for everyone to read.” And now, you reduce what you think are the stupid questions.

He stop showing his car.

Nope! just a Teen

Yea I'm lucky if someone gets past it not being a Nova or a Chevelle. If someone asks what motor is in it I tell them "Turquoise".

See? Yall are all just dumb. If you run a slant six, you won't have any of these problems. LOL

Isn't there an Ausi slant six that's a HEMI? You could be telling the truth then....

The guy sounds like a worthless piece of crap.
If you take your car to a show, there are always going to be a variety of people that are there, many are new to the hobby and are learning. I'd rather have a newbie ask questions in the interest of learning rather than a Numbers chasing purist blab on and on about what isn't OEM correct on the cars at the show.

THIS RIGHT HERE.

When people ask about it, I just tell them it has a little V8. 418 stroker is just a rabbit hole I don't want to go down if they are just casually looking and not a real gearhead.

My 69 is a pretty sharp car and stout, but it still doesn't get the attention and adoration that my 72 got with with a super clean SL6. People just love that little beastie and novices to pro's would always smile when they saw it. The stroker gets scrutinized and looked right over

Yea, he is. I don’t hang around him anymore. The level of rudeness and arrogance is beyond compare. One kid, and I mean kid, 18-19, asked what his car was. He actually screamed back at him, “It’s a F’in helicopter a-hole!” Great way to turn new people off and out of the old car shows and possibly ownership.

Tired of “Purists” to the point I don’t go to shows anymore.

When I have my Valiant out, people often ask if it has a /6.

I tell them it came with a 318 & it has lead to some great conversations & even leads on parts.

Honest questions get honest answers around here & I enjoy talking to people.

Anyone with a classic car is an ambassador to the hobby as a whole, so it is best to stay positive.

That said, I have learned to avoid the rude & crude types in this hobby.

I may be talking A-pples vs C-antelopes (they're bigger than oranges and start with a C) but they come from the same farm....
Drove my 69 Fury ragtop for 14 summers.
The big question I always got - 383 car?
My answer - Nope, 318 6pack.
Their response - they didn't make those.
My reply - nope, but I did.
From there, depending on who's garage they prefer , they'd either just walk away, or ask to see it.
