Will the holley sniper work with a OEM hall effect distributor? Say something like what would have come in a 318 around 1987?
Thanks.

Hello 93ragtop,
Providing you have a stock coil, Stock Hall effect, and you are not trying to control the Timing with the Sniper then I believe you would connect it as depicted in the picture below using the yellow wire to provide the Sniper with the engine RPM signal.
You can confirm this with the Holley tech line @ 1-866-464-6553.
Here is the link to the install PDF for the Sniper.

Hope this helps.
Happy Mopar :)

Arron, thank you for the quick response,
I would need the sniper to control timing..... The OEM hall effect does not have any vacuum advance or mechanical advance in it....

Hello 93ragtop,
Yep that where it starts getting expensive.
Holley recommends using there distributor with a MSD box and coil to accomplish that task. There is more information in the PDF link I posted as what to use and how to hook it all up.
Let us know what you decide and how it works out.
Happr Mopar :)

The detail NOT present in those Holley diagrams should make Holley ashamed. I would say follow the destructions about pg 35 or so for the dual sync setup The dist. trigger that is

i sell and use the sniper daily. you need a 2 wire pro billet.
BluePrint Engines

glad to help if you are looking for system components

I appreciate everyone's input. I was hoping that the OEM hall effect distributor would work... If it had, I was considering putting one on my 87 dakota 3.9 V6, then latter using it on a 5.2 or 5.9.
It seems with the odd fire distributor, there are no aftermarket alternatives out there...
But again, thanks for your help.

The Holley "Hyper Spark" distributors made for the Sniper system are hall effect. I don't know why it wouldn't work with the factory hall effect distributor, the signal would be the same. I would try to use the factory distributor first since you already have one. If it doesn't work, then you can upgrade.

The factory unit might work with a Sniper. Best way to find out is to hook up a voltmeter to your factory distributor and find out what the signal looks like. Or take it someone who has a scope and look at the signal. Once you know what the signal looks like you can call Holley and ask them.
