I use empty plastic Folgers cans , nuts, bolts etc. all separated. Dump out on a piece of cardboard, bend/fold together and pour back in when done sorting thru.
I've been using coffee cans too, as well as plastic jars (like peanut butter jars). Works nice as you can spray whatever down with wd40 or whatnot, and write with a sharpie on the lid whats in it.
The cardboard thing is a new one to me though, thanks! Now I have a legitimate use for all those beer 30 pack boxes! "Honey, I need more beer to help sort all these nuts and bolts." :)
