How many 8 3/4" 3rd members do you currently have ?

What is the most that you usually keep?
When I got my first 8 3/4" axle, I was anxious to gather up some gearsets to have around. The idea of having a 2.76 for long trips and a 4.10 for drag racing seemed great.
I never warmed up to drag racing though. I'm not fast enough and my car is too heavy. I do like road trips but the super tall 2.76 ratio makes for sluggish starts.
I currently have 6 3rd members.
2.76 open
3.23 open
3.23 SG
3.55 SG
3.91 open
3.91 SG.
I have sold off some over the years but I seem to stumble on others to replace them.
I have 8 3/4" axles in 2 of my cars and 2 of the project cars are slated to get them as well.
These must be durable because most are equipped with original gears and I have never broken any 3rd member so far.

Likely the reason you never broke one is because you never have drag raced. Or don't. I wouldn't see one breaking with street tires. Try this a couple dozen times: First get some big Hoosier wrinkle wall slicks, do a nice fat burn off in a wet box until there's smoke rolling up into the telephone wires. Then creep up to a surface that if you walked crossed it with your tennis shoes you would probably lose a shoe.. Then rev your dual-quad stroker up to about five grand and sidestep the clutch... (Of course I would expect you to have a 489 case spooled with all the best brand new parts set up by a professional)
