A while back I bought a transmission from a guy here who pulled it from a 1965 Coronet with a 273. It is a 904 transmission but it has a long tail shaft like the 727 does. When I installed it into my 64 dart, I noticed that the mounting flange on the tail housing was further forward and that the bolt hole spacing was wider apart. I modified my crossmember by cutting part of it and adding an extension forward, and I took the die grinder to the metal flange on the rubber mount and slotted the bolt holes so it could bolt to the transmission.

I still have a couple of problems with this setup though, I was hoping somebody could shed some light on it for me.

Number one, the mount is too tall and it pushes the transmission against the floorboard.
Number two, there is not much contact between the heads of the bolt and the metal flange on the rubber mount since the flange was not wide enough.

I need info on what kind of Mount I can find that is about half an inch to 3/4 of an inch shorter and has the wider bolt spacing. Any ideas?

Just for clarification, it is in fact a 904 but it really seems to me like maybe it has a 727 rear housing and output shaft..

Is it a cable shift trans with a rear pump?
It is cable shift, running it with my push buttons. Couldn't tell you if it's got a rear pump or not, I don't know how to tell them apart. Aluminum case though.

If its cable shift it has a rear pump. what was in the car originally? can you get a mount for the 65 dodge it came from. Take some pictures of the trans and post them including the complete bottom of the pan to see the pan gasket shape. 65 is the only year that trans has a slip in driveshaft.

This is the mod I made to the crossmember for the new mount location.

These next three are the transmission I have now, pulled from a 1965 Coronet. Has 904 in large raised face and takes the same pan the slant 6 transmission did.

Wow that is one rare piece. That is a 64 trans. From what I remember 64 was the last year for the ball&trunion driveshaft. 65 were all slip in but I only had 727's. You can push that car to start it with the rear pump . Get it rolling 25 mph and push the low button. Back in the day I was poor and couldn't afford a new battery. I would always park on a hill .LOL.

You can take that hub off of the tail shaft and convert to a slip yoke. I know guys that would kill for that trans. I use to put the throttle to the floor in neutral and push the 1st gear button. Those transmissions were as tough as an OX.

My buddy and I were doing the neutral to 1st and then when it was just about ready to hook up I would push the reverse button then back to 1st and back to reverse. I just kept doing it. We were laughing so hard I was crying. The wheels were hopping so bad in reverse I don't know what was keeping the rear in the car . It was a white 62 Dart 4dr 361 4bbl. I was using it for parts for a convertable and we were giving it the test. Just thinking back I am laughing again.

I had tons of pictures of these old cars with their complete tear downs I was scanning in. I had a thread going of my past but to many complaints stopped the thread. I may have pictures of that mount on the trans. I'll look for it and scan it in. I may have a mount? I would drop the motor and trans out the bottom as I do today back in the 70's.
