This is my bud, Odie. The look on his face is 'are we really gonna do this picture stuff again?'.
He was my garage bud.
We got Odie about 8 years ago. He was 7 at the time.. was almost 15 went he went to wait for me at the bridge to cross together.
I got him from a family friend of mine, when she passed away.. he was her service dog for 5 years. He was deaf trained, and as my friend had balance issues he was also trained to lean on her to keep her straight, act as a brace if she needed, or fall down for a soft spot for her to land on if she was going to fall.
When he didn't have his working vest on, he was a goofy assed 75 pound Labradoodle.. a true master at stealing a baby's nook out of the baby's mouth... never understood the fascination he had with baby nooks, lol. He would meet me at the door after work, grab my slipper, then run to the other end of the house with it.. I'm sure just to mess with me. I never put his vest on.. he was retired from working, he deserved to just be a fun loving dog after that.
I've had dogs all my life. I think Odie was the most intelligent dog of them all.
My wife and I were with him when he left. Rubbing him and telling him how much we loved him.
The 17 yr old boy is devastated. After a good cry, and some hugs and words from me, he went to the hockey rink. The wife didn't want him to go, afraid he would hurt someone.. but he needs to deal with it in his own way.

Rest in Peace, Odie. I'll see you at the bridge, and we'll cross it together.

Sad when they pass, they enrich our lives so much and ask so little in return.

RIP Odie, your best friend and master will be along to join you again one day...and it will be a joyous reunion!

I'm so sorry for your loss man! When I lost my first dog " Buddy" I swore I'd never get another dog I got him him when I was 16 he lived 14 years. I was 30 when he passed my wife and kids convinced me to get another puppy "for the kids" two years ago and I have a new best friend he is my side kick and does everything with me he is always by my side. Marshall the best friend a man can have. Now I have 6 dogs lol. Marshall got too big for an inside dog so we got a little miniature aussie for inside and then picked up a stray that just so happened to be pregnant. So now we have 6 lol I hope you can find another one to fill the void they leave when they pass they can never be replaced you but you can find joy with a new one.

Too soon to think about getting another one. still too raw right now. It's funny how they can turn into being such a big part of your life.

Yea I agree it took me over 2 years I probably never would have if my wife and kids didnt push me too.

I'm spending one last night out in the garage with Odie... cranking tunes and remembering the times when I'd be all frustrated doing brakes or whatnot on a car that we needed for work, and he'd drop a tennis ball under the car when I was bitchin.. I'd go play with him for a half hour or so, and when I came back I'd have a different way of taking that bolt out or whatever and it'd go easy. Like he knew 'Dude! You need to step away for a minute.'
Kid came home... he hugged Odie. He was in a better state, but his knuckles are bruised from punching a wall. He's learning to deal with loss, and he's doing ok. We had some good laughs about the stuff Odie used to do.
Some of this might sound a bit morbid to some of you, but we all deal with a loss in our on way.

Our condolences from up here. I remember you mentioning Odie before. We are on our 3rd and "ĺast" dog Piper.
Great pic of Odie!

Very sorry for your loss. I understand your and your son's feelings.

My Leo went to the Rainbow Bridge on July 10th and it's still very raw with me.

Losing pets can hurt worse than losing family and friends. You have our condolences.

SO sorry for your loss. We Have always had miniature Dachshunds. We have two now. They are great dogs and very loving. It is very hard to say goodbye. We attach ourselves to pets with lifespans much shorter than ours. Witnessing their demise is inevitable. But those amazing creatures can pack 60 years of love and happiness into 14 years. The joy of those 14 years is worth the heartache at the end. If they could talk, they would say the same thing. Just remember the good times. Our first dog, Gretta, passed 32 years ago, and I still remember the love, fun and joy.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I think dogs know they are only here for a short time, and that is why they give you relentless love when they are part of your life. My wife and I lost our boy Buster to stomach cancer on 6-14-19, and he was only 11. R.I.P. Odie, and I hope you and Buster play and have a good time until we get there.
