I don't remember seeing these growing up as a kid in California

We had them in Michigan. I preferred them over McDonalds but Peppy’s was way better than either one.

We had a couple in Macon way back when. They were good.

We had them in the Washington DC area. 4 or 5 of them. After my career as a newspaper distributor, I landed a job at my local Burger Chef , at age 15. Had to have a work permit from the state of Maryland, to work. I remember making $1.25 an hour. Worked there for a few years, and they even made me Night Manager. This is crazy, but we used to clean the floors every night with Ammonia and Bleach ???? WTF. Never knew about the dangers. Maybe that whats wrong with me Now.:rolleyes:. Was there for about three years. One night, the General Managers wife was working the front line, but she was loafing and just not helping the other girls. So I told her to get to work, or Id fire her. Well I fired her. Next day , the Owners called me in and FIRED ME !!! WTF ???? The following week, I started my career in Auto Parts at an Independent store. Think they paid me $1.75 as a delivery boy.... Worked my may up in the company, then bought a store from the old guys, then opened 2 more. Sold out to Carquest in 2000, at the age of 44

Used to be here in Texas also, along with W T Roadrunner. They both disappeared in the mid, or late 80's.

Burger Chef!
Was the bomb, when I was a kid!
They were the ones who invented the "Happymeal" actually called a Funmeal.
When Star Wars came out, Burger Chef was the 1st to have any type of promotion with it. They gave posters away and glasses.
My Burger Chef Star Wars poster was still hanging on the wall of my bedroom when I went into the Army.
Sadly, they were sold out to Hardee's (aka Carl's Jr) and promptly went to ****.
Every now and again Hardee's will have a Big Shef burger, it's close, but not the same.

There was one near my grandparents house, now it is a day care.
I remember being around 4 or 5 years old, and my grandpa and I walking down there, he was blind, so he always said I was his eyes, we went every where together when I was a very young child. We would get on the bus, even go up town, just entertain each other, good times.
But to this day I can remember him going into the burger chef, and him ordering a MOP sandwich, mustard, onion, and pickles.
That had to be a horrible tasting sandwich, but my grandmother could not cook, everything was burnt.
My dad even said he did not know what food tasted like until he married my mom.
Thanks dibbons for bringing back a good memory of my Grandpa.

We had a few of them in Asheville. One was at Westgate Shopping Center. They did a booming business when I was little, because that was the only shopping center in town. There was also rides there, and everyone walked up to Burger Chef to eat. Good times!

Burger Chef was in Indy way before McDonalds.
Decent fast food, the posters that said BC was bought out by Hardee’s got it right.
As a side note, The Mug and Bun
on the West side of Indy is still in business and still has car service where they hang a tray on your car window,, hope they out live all of the fast food joints.

During high school in Fresno in 1968, we used to hop in the Roadrunner and go to Burger Chef for lunch. We'd do this at least three times per week.

They used to be in Louisville Kentucky also, I loved their burgers, seems like they were all better back then.

We had a Scotties burger in Lebanon Ky. In the 70's I loved those burgers, it was a little red and yellow dinner, it closed in the late 70's I still miss it, there's supposed to be a few left in Tennessee I'm going to have to make me a trip and try one out.

First, we had a Burger Chef in Topeka in the early 70s, and it was nasty.
Second, YOU MIXED BLEACH AND AMMONIA??? That gives off Chlorine Gas.

I also preferred Burger Chef to McDonalds.

In the late 70's BC had punch out cardboard roads buildings and cars in their hamburger and funmeal boxes.

They were 1/64th scale and they had dozens if not hundreds of different ones.

Enough to build a 6 foot square city or more.

The building was bought in the early 80's and turned into a strip club!
