How much hp/w2

I'm interested in how much hp some of the members have made with a set of w2 heads.what are realistic hp numbers that can be made.
 
600 with the right portwork and components.
Thanks,I have a pile of Dyno sheets that came with Dave's hot wheels car.from 600 to 767. Supposed to be from the w2 r3 small block that came with the car. I'm kinda new to w2 heads. But 767 seems like alot for.thoses.heads

767 is going to be a pie in the sky number. Well prepped heads can easily make 630-640. After that, any power you get comes with a ton of work.
 
MRL was a builder in Michigan (Mike Liston) who has closed shop a while ago and had a certain reputation for 'slightly' inflated dyno numbers.
 
The question should be ...How much power can I make for my intended usage ?
If you want a Pro-Stock style engine that revs into the 8500 range I am sure 700+ is possible.
But for a dual purpose car 600 is probably pushing it.
If mine hits 525ish I will be happy. Anything over that is gravy .
 
First thing about heads period is how well they flow. And on what cubic inch size engine there going to be on with the associated parts for your goal. And that goal is???

In layman’s terms, the head should have the ability to make 2hp per cfm or flow the head offers. This layman’s math is not a maximum output but what a well built engine and combination should do.

So! If your ported W2 heads flow 300 cfm, then getting 600hp from them is a real possibility. But only if you have the right parts supporting them in trying to reach that goal.

This is true. The limits of the W2 are the low intake port. Even with a TR and two Flying Toilets and 8500 it wasn't easy to get 680 out of them.

Knowing what I know today, 700 isn't out of this world impossible, but it takes a ton of work, the intake must be welded to get enough section to run it up that high and you have to have your crap worked tight at that RPM.

You could increase the stroke, but the power output will be the same, it will just happen at a lower RPM.

That's why Chrylser should have updated the W5. It's raised intake runner helped big time. They also needed to use the W7 length valves. Of course, then you have the W7, which is really what they should have done now that I type this out...just produce the W7 and call it a bracket head, because that's what it really is.

Interesting fact. I don't remember the year, but it had to be the early 1990's, Ritter/Weber were running a car in Comp Eliminator. They set the record at 7.77/167 IIRC. I know the 7.77 is correct but I may be off on the MPH a bit.

They did that on modified W7 castings. On one 4bbl. That's impressive. So the heads had potential. What a waste.

If you had those heads and R blocks (or a Ritter block) you could easily make 800 HP on 400 inches all day long.

I modified an Indy intake to try on my Edelbrock heads but haven’t tried it yet. Has anyone tried this for a high winding W2 build.
