bending conduit "by hand"

-
I’d use PVC Conduit. Obviously a ground wire is needed. You can make your own bends by heating up the conduit with a propane torch. No prefabricated 90’s needed. It’s a much cleaner job without all the couplings.

Check your state or municipal code.

Some areas do not allow PVC conduit.

I agree four 90's in 11 feet is a crazy pull (or push).

I assume we're talking about 1/2" conduit.

You'll need one joint anyway because you have more than a 10 foot stick of pipe.

If it's damp, you'l need at least compression fittings and weather tight boxes (or the PVC).

That many bends that close together is pretty much an art, and getting them in the right place, and at the right angles is probably not gonna happen on the first try, if you have never done it before or haven't done it in a long time.

Bent conduit and pulled wire for 5 years, to many bends if you can do a couple 45 degree bends to get to where you are going that will help .

Been running pipe in industrial settings for 30 years. Four 90's in that short of run will be tough for someone without experience. You also will have take up in the pipe as well as the need to eliminate "dog legs".

There's these...…….

Pre plan your bends.
Cough up the $40 and go to Lowe's / Home Depot or wherever and buy the bender.
Take it home and make your bends.
Take bender back the next day and tell the person at the return desk " l bought the wrong size".
They don't give a sh*t. anyhow.
Get your money back.
Someone l know.... ( not going to mention any names) Did that recently with a $90 laser level for a 5 minute job.

Well ,ur honest about being dis honest !!

He could go to 3/4" pvc !!

allright guys
I appreciate everyones opinion

I decided to go with the 1/2 inch PVC pipe, because, well it is just way cheaper

if all goes well, ill toss some pick up when im done
(but if it ends up looking as crooked as Hillary, I wont)

Not perfect and the wire ain't NEVER coming out, but good enough
(I did decide to use a single 10 footer)

You probably don't want to use the recep as a feed through device.

There were strict policies against that when I was an apprentice.

"Pigtail out".

...unless you are using the GFI recep to "protect" the device at the other end.

I'm cringing.

Sorry.

Hmm, perhaps try replacing that run of conduit using 3 LR’s and an LB.
Coming out of the receptacle box use a LR shooting the conduit straight up into another LR then have the conduit follow the soffit into an LB. Then the conduit can rise straight up into another LR and then across into your single gang box.
I’m not being a dick but those bends are kinked and it’s a code violation to run RX or UF cable through a conduit. Also a Non Metallic strap must be used on NMC(Non Metallic Conduit and must be within 3’ of each conduit body(Electrical box or LR).

thanks for the advice guys...if I knew what I was doing, I wouldn't have posted here, I would have just don't it

thanks piggles, I thought the whole point of the FGCIs was to protect the entire circuit?
not much to it to swap the wires to the same poles so it runs parallel

I don't think I ever had to do so much googling to translate some ones help down to where I understand it

you are absolutely right on the bend kinks, but I think I will let it be for now
(if you really want to see something at my house that is not up to code, check this out spiral staircase for loft )

I actually asked my contractor buddy how to do this, up to code, and he said to run it through conduit (though we didn't talk about what wire I was gonna use)

well there you go.

I do have a contractor buddy (in fact, hes the guy I gave the bronco to, in return for some work) I could bug, he will be around the house sooner or later
that might be the best way to go

buying the prebend ones would probably put me halfway to the cost of the bender, so I don't like that idea either

just one more thing to trip over
if i thought id ever need it again, i probably would (no, i wouldnt, im cheap, and the tool is more then the materials involved)
.............................................................
Home Depot near me ( Bridgeville, PA ) rents tools.
Compare prices.

Check with a good local hardware store. I 'think' you can by 90's pre-bent, you will just need to buy couplers to connect the bend to the straight.

We use pre bent 90's where I work.

LB's and LR's woulda been easier too.
Home Depot sells single conductor wire by the foot too. Maybe 20 feet of THHN 12 gauge Black White and Green. Would've pulled in easier than Romex.

Another trick.....
To pull wire in. Tie string to some plastic, we use blue grocery bag.
Suck it thru the pipe with a shop vac. Use the string to pull your wire in.
