The 1969 A-13 440 Cudas had their 383 engines removed before going to Hurst and receiving the 440 engine. Was the car's VIN stamped into the new engine block above the bell housing area. Thanks, Nick T.

The A13 1969 cars were built from the factory with 440’s. They never had 383’s in them. The vin would have been stamped on the passenger side of the oil pan rail.

As written above, in 1969 ALL 440 A-Body's were built in the factory, no involvement from Hurst-Campbell. In 1968 the Mr. Norms GSS Darts were the cars that were shipped without engine/trans to the Hurst-Campbell facility along with the 440 engines and trans with the VIN on the bellhousing area.

There was never supposed to be a M code 68 car. But stories can run rampant. I have heard of a couple, but never have seen 1. I think it’s like any Mopar u never say never. Kim

There were 48 M-Code 68 Dart GSS's made for Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge exclusively, I have one at my shop and put a restored one in a museum two months ago. I have 13 of them in my registry, I still work for Mr. Norm today. All of them were 383 cars taken off the assembly line without engine and trans and shipped to Hurst-Campbell in Detroit with 440 engines and trans with the Dart VIN number on the bell housing area. All fender tags said 383 because they were already built as bodies. The first six digits of the VIN are LS23M8B. Here is the one I took to the Gilmore Auto Museum outside of Kalamazoo, MI anyone can go see it at anytime.

Were there 68 Mcode cudas? A buddy of mine swears his friend has one.

So what drivers side exhaust manifold was used on these '68 M-codes?...since the rarer than rocking-horse-poo 440 ones didn't come out 'til '69?

65Val, I would guess the 383 manifold with some grinding as needed, but I could be wrong. Good question.
I remember years ago when Reggie Jackson was collecting cars he had an 68 440 Dart that burnt down in a storage fire. He lost a number of rare cars, but I remember that one, what a shame.

Yes, enquiring minds want to know what driver's side manifold they used. My 69 M-code GTS came with 383 manifolds when I bought it 8 years ago, which cleared the column but was tighter than I would think somebody selling a new car would be comfortable with.
