Just picked up a 1966 Dart 270 with a 225. It’s been a really long time since I have gotten my hands dirty on an engine so I am looking for some advice. I want to start simple so I’m looking just to do a tune-up. Got an oil change. I’m thinking plugs/wires/cap/rotor are next. Any guidance on how to do this? I know I need to set the dwell but I really can’t remember how! Even if there is a step by step book for simple maintenance like this....I’m all ears. Let me know and thank you!!!

hey local. I just got mine recently too...the Factory manual covers ALLL of this and is great. you can get it on rockauto along with all the parts you need

lmk if you ever want to chat/shop talk im in campbell

Mymopar.com has factory service manual free download.

Dwell is set with feeler guage between point contacts on the peak of a lobe. Them checked with a dwell meter you can get from Auto parts store etc.

I have nothing against rock auto but I would get the parts local invade you need to exchange.

Before you do anything adjust those valves while motor is running hot. Set them a little loose 0.012 0.022 intake and exhaust. Then with that platform I would start the tune up.

As soon as you can, get the three books listed in this thread. Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this post. Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download. Also see this thread.
Last link sends me to the login page. I logged in and it went to a post about a 66 wagon. Third post was a lengthy one by you which I am assuming is the target. I doubt the login page was part of your plan. The other links don't do that.

On a "new" car to me, one of the first things I do is a compression check.
After that, a basic but thorough tune-up is next using good quality parts, not the cheapest.
Don't forget to remove the washers from the spark plugs.
A bump up in timing to about 10* BTDC is a good starting point.

As already stated, a valve clearance adjustment is mandatory.
And the dwell can be checked with a meter but is determined by the point gap. Those lucky GM guys could adjust dwell while the engine is running through a little window in the cap. Bastards.

I think that's because of a board software change over there. Sounds like you found the relevant post, but it looks like sometimes the board doesn't take you to it after you log in—solution there is to log in and then go back and click the link again, then you should find yourself right at the intended post.
