That really does work at least on mopar cleaners. I saw a you tube video of those guys on..(cant remember the name of the show) but the one guy is steve (his last name starts with a d and I cant pronounce it much less spell it) he is a big mopar guy and he too a dual snorkel mopar air cleaner and put it on a dyno with it stock and flipped and it made quite a bit more power!
engines are air pumps. Inhale and exhale. Even a small thing to support the "air pump process" like flipping a lid can make a difference. Sometimes these differences cannot be felt by the seat-of-the-pants, but it helps. Now, if a air cleaner is designed to breath fresh air and you flip the lid, then you are allowing it to pull the hot air, and in this case it can actually hurt the performance.

Proven or Myth ??? A place to share old race secrets, budget deals, or let's just debunk them and lay them to rest!

Soak the air filter in Nitro before you go to the line if you need that little bit more to edge out your competitor.

Not totally true if the air cleaner is restrictive from the start. The hot air is a detriment verse cool air, it it’s better than not getting enough. Proven trick.

The show.. Engine Masters on Motortrend in demand.com.

David Freiburger (Fry-Burger)
and Steve Dulcich (sp?)
Say “Dull sich” or the word “Stich” without the “t” in it.

Pen might be a good oil now , but have you ever torn down a chevy engine that was run on the old stuff back in the day? was the gummed upest motor I`ve ever seen !!
It had paraffin in it.

Kinda fun to watch. Too bad you have to pay to see them

I’m not sure. I was watching some of it recently. Discovery maybe?
Is the “Speed” channel still around?
Engine masters and Roadkill got really big on you tube to the point they (YouTube) wanted them to pay (big bucks) to be in there. So they left and ended up on Motortrend on demand only.

I doubt you’ll catch new episodes on TV.

Yeah, back yrs ago one of my best friends that is a mech. , showed me engines ran on Pennzoil, they were gummed up 'BAD' under the valve covers .

Roadkill sucks anymore , little teenager stuff to me !

1- Upside down air cleaner lid absolutely works if it increases airflow through the carb. Simple physics.

2- I'm not sure I understand the OP. Are they traction bars? Are they different than common ones?

They are a traction bar, but a more effective traction bar. Bolting directly to the U-bolts instead of before/after the housing gives way more action. Also, they came with a clamp instead of a rubber bumper. Best of all, 29 bucks for a set! The ultimate if you needed shock mounts going from 7.25 to 8.25/8.75/Dana. To bad they don't make them anymore.

How about raising the back of the hood up a 1/2 inch ????

I'm hoping to see something for 22 bucks that will knock 4 tenths off my car!!

it's easy. Only requires a pocket knife to cut the vacuum hose, insert a T-fitting, and run another hose up towards the top of the motor for easy access, or you'll be reaching behind a hot motor
run the free end into the cab and put the bleeder on that. You'll bleed boost pressure and fool the wastegate into opening later, creating more boost. Crack that ***** WO and your wastegate wont open at all. Thyy sell them on Ebay for $9 shipped..."manual boost pressure regulator"
We used to run no air cleaners...freeway driving, not alot of dust. what was it worth? probably a set of rings.
buying Ultra 94 gas on friday night for the weekend...what did it cost? Probably $3.00 more for a fill up; any gain, nope.
How about hauling a smaller girlfriend? Gains... a tenth? Was it worth it? Pssshhh.....Hell no.

A trick that worked back in the day and still does was to advance the timing at the distributor until the car pinged and then retard it until it didn't. Also you can take into account that if the engine struggles to start, then back it down a few degrees until it doesn't.
The factory settings were for emissions and/or the worst possible gas available (like 75 octane) and the engine will still run on it. (Old gas too)
This will increase power and gas mileage over stock.

There's one myth that I have heard time and time again is that a 2 barrel carb on a car will give you better gas mileage than a 4 barrel.
This is false unless you drive the car like an animal and rev the crap out of it every chance you get...........

Wanna lower you E.T. by 4 tenths on a street car?
The easiest way is to shed about 400 lbs. of weight off the car.
An easy way to start is to take out the spare tire and jack with tools, rear seat, hubcaps, tools, etc. that are just dead weight to pull around.
For a more dedicated track car you can lose the heater and ducting, passenger seat, radio, sound deadener and carpeting.

This will lower the E.T. by a noticeable amount and will cost you 0$ and just a little time and still be street legal to boot...........

Cool thread!

That's the way I set my timing, period.

Can't go wrong.

if a 2 barrel didn't offer better average MPG, why did they offer them, especially on "economy" cars?

Cheaper to build. Many small 4 barrels have smaller primaries than a 2 barrel has. Keep your foot out of it and get better mileage.

Race tip of the day. Take a dump before you race. You'll run faster.
