Gas Cap Question-71 Duster

Yes I've heard this as well. I'm in the same situation with my 71 scamp.

Anyone have input on this source?

I have been through this whole ordeal with my '71 Dart Swinger. In March/April of 1971 they changed the distance of the little locking ears on the gas caps making them further away from the inside of the cap. Consequently, when you spin the cap to tighten it, the locking ears just glide over the tabs/cams inside the fill tube and the cap never tightens up all the way. If you are lucky it gets snug but nothing more. I battled this for 25 years until I figured it out. Thank you for coming to life internet.

The cap you folks are looking for are hard to come by. I found a guy on EBAY who has a few for sale at a fair price. I purchased two from him and plan to keep the second as a spare. My original cap is chrome with a black handle. 25 years ago it was taken off my car and thrown into a lake. I was not happy. The guy on EBAY has a couple more of the chrome caps with black handles and he also has some that you can paint. I have his contact information if anyone is interested. He is a great guy and HONEST !!

Some caps have four ears and some have two ears. The caps with four ears have a purpose. One set of ears will lock the cap down. The second set serve as a safety feature. If there is pressure build up, the second set of ears keep the cap partially in the fill tube preventing you from getting sprayed directly with fuel if it shoots out the fill tube. I encourage everyone to use the caps with four ears if you can find one.

I need some help my friends. I've been all over FABO looking for specific details on how to remove vent window frame, glass, and side glass. I am working on my doors and want to replace all the rubber, felt, and channel seal. I've seen bits and pieces from members but have not found anything that can show me with any detail how to do it. I am really looking for photos or videos but any help is appreciated. Can anyone help me with this?
