kicking around hooking up the headlights on my drag only 1970 Duster. Does anyone have a wiring schematic or and suggestions on upgrading it to brighter lower amperage bulbs. I want this hooked up to a simple toggle on off switch. Some of the tracks I race at get pretty dark at night.

Battery to fuse to switch to bulb.

Battery could be at the starter relay.

Mymopar.com has factory service manuals for factory wiring

I did find the plugs at Advance Auto. Looks like the stock bulbs drawl around 4 amp each on low beam

There is a relay upgrade to make them brighter, makes quite the Improvement. Altho not sure if you "need" that?
@crackedback sells a complete kit.

Thanks. I don’t need a lot of light and not very often. I only run a one wire Chevy type alternator (60 amp) so I’m trying to find ifmaybe a simple LED add on may be s better option

Since driving on the street isn't priority, just get a set of the cheap *** LEDs and install those.

They are not very good, but likely sufficient for what you want to do.

Not sure what you have remaining on the car from the original wiring.
This will give you some idea of the original scheme.
Ignore the voltage regulator etc at the top since yours is internal and its irrelevant anyway.
Some wire colors and sizes may be different in '70 but otherwise circuits should be right.

The headlights themselves got power from the main splice. Their circuit breaker was in the headlight switch.
The parking lights got power from the hot side of the fusebox. They shared the fuse with dome light and the brake light.

The lowest draw regular lamps are a cheap set of halogen sealed beams. Low beam power draw will be rated 35 Watt.
LED should draw less but I don't know what the weight is with the heatsink etc.
If you want lightweight sealed beam or H4 type, send a PM to @CPDave and ask what he's using on the Dart for similar purpose.

PS. You can see in the diagram some of the problem with the original circuit, especially when the higher wattage lamps came along around '72 or '73.
Only the A-bodies got 18 gage wires and 15 amp breakers. My only guess is it was because that's was suffient for the 'compacts' when sealed beams were only 40W/50W.

Thanks for all that but I’m just going to try running a ground and a Hot to a switch and a 12 volt power source

I was watching 1/8 mile bracket race at Lancaster Dragway couple months back and the track had a power outage on the return road at night. All the racers were complaining they could not see. I would consider some type of Led for low power draw and brightness.

I picked up two sets of LED lights at Walmart the other day. Looking like a winter project now.

Got a pic by chance

I’m loaded up to go to Norwalk and the lights are inside my Duster in the trailer. I would have been there but I couldn’t get one of my cats in the motorhome so I’m leaving Thursday so I can leave them here. If you bump this post Thursday afternoon I will take some pictures for you.

Ok long day yesterday. Took 5 hours to get here with all the wind and rain. Took one time trial and they canceled the Wednesday make up race till today. Like I said I bought two sets as I wasn’t sure which way to go. The round ones are nice but I think I will try the oval ones on this car. Here’s pictures of both.

Did you ever get those lights mounted? Got a pic?

No the car is still in the trailer and when I bring it in tomorrow I will be leaving the frontend in the trailer for the winter. It makes pulling the engine so much easier. My son just want me to use the stick headlights so I will see next spring
