Made this in one short afternoon to set a SBM V8 engine w center sump oil pan in. The V6 that's on it is a rear sump but balances pretty well. Eventually I will paint it, and snap on some plastic end caps, but it will do just fine for now. Engine looks front heavy, but a V8 center sump will be more centered when set on this.

Cheers
Matt

Thanks for this! I have a need, have 3 engines and trannies to move around in the garage. I'll prolly go the cheap/quick wood way for now as I have some wood laying around. @Johnny Dart , do you have any more pics of the dolly setup you made?

With the permission from MoparMatt, I could dig a couple up.

Dont need my permission Johnny. Post em up. This thread is all about posting what I made to help people get what they need weather it's out of wood or steel. If RSie can build this out of wood, more power to him. Heck, post em with detailed instructions so I might be able to make a wooden engine dolly. RSie, I'd recommend making out of steel though since you needed welding practice before piecing your cuda together. Why not make a couple of these out of metal and brush up on your welding skills. When my brother bought his lincoln Weldpack 110 to stitch together his monte carlo, I told him to make his first welding project a welding cart as practice

Sorry for hijacking your post, man.
You're gonna make a welder/fabricator out of me yet aren't ya? Whether I like it or not! lol
I agree, would be a nice project for some practice, but I have the lumber and some old casters laying around right now, and I need to get my 340 off the hoist and out of the way soon.

Do either of you have the measurement between the 'uprights' that the oil pan edge sits on? Inside measurement, 71 340. I don't have a pan laying around to mock it up with.

I had the time, motivation, and tools, but I ran out of nuts. My wife tells me the same thing often. Ah well. @moparmat2000 I'd love to see the dimensions of the one you made.

Very nice Matt! What is the spacing between the top two bars? I got some scrap metal that needs to be put to use. Would be nice to pickup my engine from the machine shop with it ,and be able to set it down in a cradle for a while.

I just built it so the pan will rest in it with a little bit of wiggle room. Inside dimension is 8&1/2" as far as length, make that as long as you need it to be.
