I put up a pair of Challenger grills on craigslist. While I am fairly up to date on most of the scams, it seems strange that someone would want me to text them via an email account. Is there some type of angle that I am missing? I clearly stated in my listing give my a phone number or I will not respond, so not going to answer this one. That said, below is the listing reply that I received.

I wanna buy this.I've been looking for it for a long time. That's all I need.so, if it is still available, text me to dgdg144587@gmail.com

Yeah, what he's gonna do next is have Google send you text with a personal number hooked up to your account, text will have a series of numbers and specifically says to not give out that number to ANYONE. He'll ask for said number. If you give it to him, he'll have access to your account, search history, saved passwords, etc. Some guy tried to pull the same bullshit with me. They are trying to get smarter.

Yep I had one of those last week. Some crap about verifying my phone number or something, then I get this text with a number attached, and wants me to text him that number back or some such nonsense. Then he keeps asking for it, and tells me not to waste his time. I told him I wasn't up for being scammed that day.

Just send this image back to them...guaranteed to make them stop bothering you.

It is amazing, all the time people take to screw other people out of their money. I get calls on my cell phone every day, from all over the country. I dont answer them , if its a legit call , they will leave a message , no message , instant delete w/o answering.

I still don't understand why people don't simply use the encrypted, temporary email provided by craigslist.

I don't want anyone having my personal email or phone number, even if it's a burner email.

CL has already provided a secure communication method that goes away when the ad is removed, and can be used at both parties convenience and to verify what information was exchanged.

That reply is 100% suspect. They don't mention the item by name (and even if they did - look for a copy and paste from your own ad), and they don't even know it's a listing for multiple items.

I always try to include dialog that suggests I am human and know something about the background of the part/item in question-

"I've been working on Mopars for 30 years", "I used to have a 73 Rally Challenger", etc.

What also amazes me is that even after a statement like those, I still get flak from sellers.

Everything I list I ask that they email me there phone number and I will call them. It has really cut down on the BS traffic.. No phone number, no reply.
I have done the same. Also cuts down on the tire kickers. And to the OP, I have received similar reply's to my ads. Your right to ignore it.

I don't give out my phone # to anyone.

There are just as many flaky cl sellers as there are buyers.
