I passed this last weekend, and I had to go back and have another look. I wish I had the time, talent and money to take this on. It could be a cool truck. Somewhere around 1949 or 1950????

That one would be a lot of work. Guy here locally is putting a Dakota frame, shortened, under a "pilot house" Dodge. I thought about trying the same thing. I'm an idiot.

1948-1950 Dodge “Pilothouse”. Go to P15-D24 forum and look for the Pilothouse section. Lots of info there for original, as well as modified versions.

Truck in OP is the "non-pilothouse" version.

Charliec- my ‘53 is a mostly original rebuild, but this will give you an idea of what this one could look like. The full photo was taken in Luckenbach, TX. BTW, when I take it to a show, it is usually the only old Dodge there and it gets more attention than the Ford’s, Chevy’s or modifieds.

That's beautiful! Not hard to understand it getting the attention. The truth is, that's why I sought out and bought a Dart originally. I just didn't want to go to work on a project that looks like everyone else at the rally.

Really nice old truck. Did ya visit Hondo while at Lukenbach? I been there several times. When down that way the wie and I stay in Fredericksburg. Ever go see LBJs residence down that way?

The “B” series, 48-53 Dodge trucks are all called Pilothouse trucks, whether they have the custom cab (the two cab-corner windows) or not. Check out the various Pilothouse websites.

When I was in Texas picking up my 66, I noticed that there were pretty much no old cars sitting anywhere near the road, but there were plenty of old trucks, especially 3/4 ton and heavier.

Every few miles there would be one, sitting in a parking lot, or by an old shed.
I'm sure half of them could be bought.

Moparmat - I live in Comfort, about 25 miles from Fredericksburg or Luckenbach. Spent a lot of quality time in Luckenbach, at the dancehall and the store. Knew Hondo and a few of the “regulars” that hung out drinking beer in the store while locals and some pros would hold jam sessions around the wood stove. Good times.

Disagreed,as im resurrecting a fargo and think is would be a fun project. mine is suprisingly solid except for some botched frame repair. Looking at another to gather missing parts, pehaps enough to build one on a dakota frame.

The location of this one in the OP is just south of Carthage, Texas. It doesn't have a for sale sign on it, but the property it's sitting on is for sale. So, I suppose they set it out at the highway with a purpose to sell it.

Post a picture Frank.

Tooljunkie and charliec -
Go to P15-D24.com and Pilot-house.com and check out 48Dodger's truck and posts. Volare front end, independent rear suspension (from some dead Ford), and a fast 360 - its even been to the Salt Flats. There are numerous links to putting the truck on Dakota or S-10 (ugh) frames as well.

That site is an extremely good source of info, parts and support for restorers or modifiers.

Here is one I'm working on. 51 3 window thats a shortened 89 dakota frame. I wanted rack-n-pinion steering plus like the idea of keeping it all mopar .

I brought it in out of the rain, just love the look of it. Plans are newer dodge truck rear end, lower front end and back, 12 volt conversion and comfortable seats. Just as a shop truck/parts hauler.

I should have said "a lot of work for me"

The pedestal on the floor came out easy on mine. A few cuts with sawzall and a couple bends back and forth and spot welds broke. My pt cruiser buckets will work nice, just have to build rear mounts.
I sure like the fact op truck has some of the lion oil logo left.

The rims and hubcaps are off of something newer.

But I really like the “Easy Rider Rifle Rack” (how many of you remembered that Cheech & Chong reference?).

Cool trucks. I remember Grampas early 70's Fargo, which Dad called "fart-n-go". Slant six that blew smoke from stop light lol.
I have a piece of rear cab corner glass that I assumed was from Chevy. Anyone know how to I'd?

I agree Tx is full of old pickups, not all cheap though. Old cars have mostly been crushed. Tx is not a Mopar state either. More in Louisiana!!
