I’ve got a chance to acquire a Dana 60 with 4.10 gears and only 32k miles for pretty cheap. It’s from a 2004 ram SRT10. Questions I have are:

1. Does anyone know the width of this axle?

2. Is it worth it to modify this used d60 to fit my ‘69 notch or should I just buy an A body d60 ready to go?

3. From some of the research I’ve done about these I know that it’s a “C clip” d60. What is the difference between a C clip d60 and a regular one?

I haven’t really messed with d60s before. I’ve only had 8.75s

The D60 used in the SRT10 Ram has the larger (3.5"?) diameter axle tubes, and a bunch of other things unique to those trucks. They are wide. I have the measurements off an '05 SRT10 at work. It's wider than the '72-93 truck rears. Not that it couldn't be used, but starting with a more common earlier truck D60 will be easier to narrow and setup for your notch.

Not worth narrowing. The cost of new axles alone is 25% of a new rear end. The you are looking at the labor. Then is it done right? OR do it yourself and buy axles but again, what's your time worth and is it right?

My advice. buy the rear bolt in ready, done with a warranty. You won't be disappointed.

IIRC, that Dana 60 is going to be ~30-50lbs heavier than an 8 3/4" It's not an unsubstantial amount when you consider that this is unsprung mass.

Depends. My dana 60 weighs the same as a stock A body 8.75. But it's also not a stock dana 60

So I was given a quote of 1800 to shorten the SRT10 d60, install strange axles, and install the wilwood disc brake kit. From what I see online, that’s about 1800 less than the S60 from Strange.

Do those numbers sound right?

I’d be all over the S60 if it came bolt in ready with brakes for under 3k

Starting with a truck dana. I averaged right at $1200 with 11 in drum brakes. That was having a shop weld the ends and spring mounts and buying a new trac loc.
