Looking for options on good engine builders in the Northeast. I live in Maine so the closer the better. Engine is a 445” LA based small block that’s completely apart, Victor heads, pro charger and Fitech fuel injection. Have all parts and pieces to re assemble I just think I’m not familiar enough with the process to tackle this job. Would prefer the builder be able to run in on a dyno and break it in if that helps narrow stuff down. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions !!!

Can't help you with a shop because I'm in the far west but that sounds like a great build.

What block do you have??

I believe it’s a 340 resto block with 4 bolt mains. I have attached a picture

That block should be tough enough to take whatever you can throw at it.

My concern is if the boost gets too high you'll need to use o-rings and dead soft copper gaskets to get it sealed up with just 10 head bolts.

This should be a cool build. Hope we get to see the finished product!!

I’ll start a build thread when I can get everything to me. It has the bosses for the extra head studs and the heads have the extra holes. Is it possible to have the bosses machines for extra headstuds?

Yes you can add the extra bolt holes. IIRC BHJ makes a fixture that gets the bolts dead nuts on. If the jack wagons at Chrysler would publish the blue prints for this stuff like GM does, you could just put it up in the mill and find your X/Y/Z zero and put them in.

But AFAIK, Chrysler won't publish that info. Maybe Kent Ritter could give it to you but you'd have to call and ask him.

Chrylser is bad like that. I was lucky enough to get a full set of engineered drawings for the W5 heads, but that took major league butt kissing and more.

I greatly appreciate the advice, that’s one of the only things I don’t like about being a Mopar owner. Chevy information/parts are just so cheap and plentiful. What does BHJ stand for? Sorry I’m kinda new and don’t know a whole lot yet. This is the most I’ve ever posted on a forum and I’ve been a member of some of them going on 11 years lol. If you can point me in the direction of the butts I need to kiss I’ll get my chapstick.

It's BHJ Products and they are in California. They make all kinds of killer tooling so you can machine a block completely. They also have stuff they don't list on their site...like a fixture (a torque plate really) that allows you to correct cylinder head dowl pin location.

They also make torque plates for rough bored blocks so you can get the bores correctly finished on all axes.

But...you need the main line in first, then you machine the decks square and parallel and then you correct the bores to the blue print.

Actually, you may call BHJ and ask them about blue prints and such. If they don't have them, they may be able to hook you up with someone who can because they have them.

Interesting enough, I was on the phone with them on Wednesday and we were discussing R block head bolt patterns and he would suggest a torque plate unless you had the block in hand, to measure some things. The guy said there were different bolt diameters and such between different dates and casting runs of blocks.

So you may want to call them and discuss what you are doing. The bad thing is it looks like your bores are finished and adding 8 bolt holes per side will almost certainly pull the bores out of round. And I don't know what your finished bore size is.

So that will give you some leg work and research to do.

Porter Racing Heads - he's in northern VT IIRC. Also a member here and most other sites. PRH I think is his screen name.

Thank you very much yellow rose I’ll get in contact with them regarding the fixture for adding the extra head bolts. Moper I am looking him up as we speak thank you I appreciate it.

Thanks for all the suggestions, PRH gave me contact info for a gentleman near him. Said he doesn’t do much engine building anymore. I’ll give him and the compwedgeracing guy calls Monday. If anyone else has any suggestions I’d love to hear them. Just trying to get my ducks in a row in this one so I don’t have an engine that comes apart lol

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring on this one. I'd use my CNC that I could add the extra head bolt holes into without much drama. Basically , I could machine it, build it, and dyno it. I'm about an hour outside of Montreal. J.Rob

When you have and know how to use a CNC mill BHJ and their tooling becomes irrelevant. What happens after you realize that is really what gets me excited.

I have a torque plate for this.

Actually, you may call BHJ and ask them about blue prints and such. Finding a shop with a CMM or a CNC that can probe WPC's isn't that hard.

PK machine Fitchburg Mass......Yes on Dyno as well. I could not recommend any higher. Anywhere...Swingn’...

this is a great offer from a great machinist and builder and plus a 25% exchange rate savings .

I gave him my number and he is gonna give me a call tomorrow. Looking over what he has posted on the forum I think he’s gonna see my engine soon. Plus side is I’ve always wanted to drive to Canada

he done awesome work on my engine and is a no bullshit stand up guy .

that’s what I’m looking for, I’m new to Mopar based small blocks. I’ve had my fingers in a few LS engines but I’ve really always liked Mopars.
