I have a Bosch electric temp gauge. Was working great went to start car gauge
pegged to 220 (cold). I've ran all the tests
grounding sensor wire, running a jumper
even replaced the sensor. Can I assume the gauge is dead or can I just test the
gauge. Like I said it was working , haven't
done anything different. Yes I did drain the
radiator . Does the sensor need fluid
in order for the gauge to operate? You wouldn't think so as one of the test is to
ground the sensor wire . Thoughts?

Did you ever get this resolved? I have the same gauge, brand new and it does the same thing, pegs to 220. I haven't rechecked anything yet. Was hoping you got it figured out and it was something simple. I'm a little frustrated right now because I had a mechanical gauge brand new that didn't work. I did test that one and confirmed it was no good.

Some of these gauge units are a "bridge" circuit and the gauge must be grounded. Don't know about Bosch Don't overtighten senders, that can kill them

What Del said in his post. I never got it to work. Bought a new one same brand. This one works , moved sensor location . Take your sensor and ground it with a wire and use a candle or cigarette lighter and see what it does.

Thanks guys, I'll check this out tomorrow. I'm hoping I didn't tighten the the sending unit wire on the gauge too tight!

Ok I rechecked the wiring and I think the positive was grounding on gauge case. Took it apart and put it back together again, more carefully this time! Everything looks right and the gauge doesn't peg anymore. I'll try check it with some heat later. Gotta babysit some grandkids now. Thanks much for all the help guys. Much appreciated. I'll let you know what happens next. Steve.

It's working! Went up to about 190 and then dropped back to just above 180 when the thermostat opened. Now I have to fix the leak at the thermostat housing that I created. Lol
Thanks guys again.
