I am the original owner of a 67 fastback 383 Formula S four speed. The car originally was a 8 3/4 3.23 sure grip. I replaced the 3.23 with a 3.91 which I love except on the Interstate. I have the original console with lock out reverse shifter which I will keep at all costs. I would like to change out my original A833 to a 5 speed. Tremec wants me to cut the original tunnel and do away with the console and shifter. Not going to happen. Call me a purist if you wish but I know how the car came from the factory because special ordered it and I want to keep it original looking at least. long story short I am thinking about Passon's 5 speed. Anyone????

Welcome from Minnesota. It's your car so you can do what you want to do but you're gonna get a real talkin to from some of the guys here, lol. Send some pics.

I do believe the Passon is the only OD 5-speed that will fit without butchering the car. But there is a huge waiting list for them, AFAIK.

Welcome.
I love cars with interesting history and original owners and such.
That’s a real interesting car you have.
I think the Passon five speed is a great idea.
You might also consider the overdrive version of an original Mopar 4-speed, it should work good with all of the torque you have available for a 383.
Passon might have a bolt in version of that for you.
Also, we like to see pictures.

Welcome to the site, I would go with the Passon tranny if I were you.
I would love to see pics of the car and maybe more stories if you can.

Not good with computers. Don't know why it posted the same pics so many times. I apologize. I am proud of the car but that's ridiculous. I could write a novel about the car. Don't tell Chrysler but I put the car on the drag strip within the first 500 miles. I took the car from the dealership in June of 67. I raced her all summer and raced her again in 68 until I was drafted into the army in Aug. went to Vietnam in Jan 69 until Jan 70 It moved my wife and I to Ft Monmouth New Jersey for a year and a half. When discharged it became our daily driver. My first wife decided it was a demolition car, wrecked it several times while I was in Nam. I put it in storage for several years saving my money and restoring a little at a time. put the completed engine back in the car in july of 17 and drove it to the Mopar Nationals 2 weeks later. She has won herself a multitude of trophies and has been chosen for a parade so far. I could really get into detail but I see your eyes are glazing over so I'll stop now. Btw I LOVE ALL MOPARS!!!

Welcome from the Toledo area! Love the color and that clean engine - how many miles?

Yep, the "easy" option is the 833 OD, but it will kind of change the drive-ability dynamic.
It's a direct bolt in and they are cheap and easy to find.
You will spend a lot of time in second gear and shift 2-3/3-2 (cross-gate) a lot.

Probably a tie for next easiest, being trying to get a $5000 Passon 855 or a GV unit.
You can get a GV today, but it will also change the drive dynamic a bit.
I believe the consensus on install, is one or two smacks of the tunnel with a hammer.

she had a little over 114, miles when I started to restore. She has 117,500 now. She would have more if I wasn't reving so high. I would love to take her on a trip. I just love the 3.91 gear.
