SB turbo headers?

-
Theres lots of threads for this using stock magnums to shorty headers. Just look around and check out the threads.

Buy 304 stainless Chevy ones and reflange. Stainlessmufflers.com sells 304 stainless flanges and stubs for about $200

I remember seeing recently maybe a month or two ago where someone was manufacturing and selling them?..
Just four into one going straigt forward..

Yes... custom turbo headers by someone called BigAl (or so...)... 1300$ and up IIRC.

That’s crazy cheap. I wonder how good they are? Or maybe how bad? Lol
To me that seems price just about right I mean it's about the size of a shorty header there's really not a whole lot to it..
I'm sure they'll raise the price if you feel more comfortable that way LOL...

Compared to the parts and labor involved in building them, this is a bargain. Why do you think the custom ones above are $1300? I posted the ones I built in the turbo header thread. Couldn’t buy materials alone for $224.

Obviously the ones for over two hundred dollars are made in a jig and repeat over and over to make them affordable.. as opposed to remember saying somebody named Big Al makes them for $1, 300..

I started with those and they will do. Not sure how stainless they are as mine were purple in about 2 minutes. They are Chinese and they look they they use the same side pipes on both side. Just saying the drivers side faces up and passengers points down. But for 224 they will work.

that’s purple without the twins attached, just open to the turndowns I added.

I figured they were thin. I used 16gauge, a lot of those are 18 gauge

What's up with the silly inflation of Disagree's lately? Jpar, you have to disagree with about everything someone says?
My reference to the custom built headers is real since it was posted on this very forum, you can disagree as long as you want.

show off them turbo header/manifold pics

And the link is just that... a link. I am not advocating them...
Though they are pieces of art. :)

Years ago, I built my headers. I used shorty truck headers and flipped them. The pass. side didn’t work out so I had to chop them up to fit - I basically turned them into block huggers merging all 4 into 1 and then a 90* turn forward.

Though the Turbo idea is a relatively new one for me, after spending damn near every weekend at the track this past summer i've become pretty convinced that Turbo's ain't no joke.
I haven't purchased any parts yet since I just started reading a book about Turbo's and want to understand what the hell i'm doing before I just start buying parts , I am SERIOUSLY considering the addition of a single or twins to a 408 in my (primarily street) 65' Cuda where space is at a premium and I've yet to see any pics of a Turbo installed in a 65' on a V8.

I've never been one to utilize cheaper components and prefer to wait if necessary until i've got the coin to get the "better" stuff, this is actually the first time i've seen small block manifolds offered and already like the idea 16 vs 18 gauge.

I'd be just drooling to see the Turbo setup in a 65' if anybody has pics of that.

I say GO FOR IT but just make sure your eyes are wide open.

I say that because...

1. You are using my favorite car...an early A, but you already know how small they really are and...

B. Any time you are doing anything like a turbo or Pro Charger getting exhaust is really the issue.

When I first started playing with turbos it was the same deal. Exhaust is critical for good turbo performance and making all that fit in an early A, especially if the inner fenders are still there is the perfect storm for making your hair fall out trying to get a decent exhaust system on it.

If you can deal with that then you'll find much of the rest of it pretty pedestrian really.

What book are you reading?? My only turbo book (if I can find it) is from the early 1980's.

I forgot to add V8-valiant is doing an early A and a turbo or maybe two...I forget.

Beautiful car, as I saw it before he started the turbo deal and I expect when he's done it will be every bit as good and sanitary as it was N/A.

He has a thread going on here.

I’ve watched the turbo scene explode from over a decade ago where 1000hp engines were considered mean to 5000+ hp radial racers today. It’s insane. I’m a B-body guy but there’s no forced induction forum over there but where there’s a will, there’s a way to package turbos.

321 has an above average amount of titanium alloyed into it. Since Ti likes to turn brown/purple with heat, I'm going to guess that's why you're seeing the pretty colors!

Even on my 67 dart just for clearance I have oval exhaust tubing to use for my downpipes, adds a little more clearance over round.

Yeah the colors are not a deal breaker for me. It was just the fact they didn’t suite my needs position wise. I went with a more up and forward style that are 1 3/4 instead of the 1 5/8 these are. But they do have 3/8 flanges. Worth the money hands down on a budget. $1300 won’t touch a pair of stainless headers even on a damn Chevy so that’s a clear answer. Stainlessheaders.com will send you out a pvc kit to have your own custom pair built but they quoted me over 1700 for stainless. Probably worth it not to me. I just bought their flanges and stubs and tig’d a pair of prebuilt 1 3/4 Chevy ones from CX racing for a 78 camaro. Got to pick your battles in the turbo game. Quick way to drop another 7k
