So my son started college recently to become a teacher. So he is taking the basic requirements to get to the point he can do the advanced classes. He has been telling us and showing us the videos they make them watch and answer questions to. One video was a gal who obviously has had bad relationships in her life and the video was all about how the term "falling in love" was not p.c because the word "falling" denotes a term that means you were not given a choice to fall in love, because falling is not a self chosen action. That it should be "stepping into love". Then he brought home today a "white privilege checklist" today. All of the class has to fill it out. Now I am not even going to get into a race discussion here, just curious if this is a liberal Oregon thing, or nationwide thing? And at what point does race color privilege need to be taught as a college course? The teachers push gender, race, relationship opinions over anything else. I would think it would be more appropriate to teach curriculum related to the course topic. He is taking basic psychology, math, and English. I am seriously wondering wtf? The teachers have also voiced their sexual preferences. As one said he is thinking about trying guys, and the gal teacher said she is pansexual....I am really worried about America as a whole.

I always thought this race thing would go away as soon as we stopped focusing on it, but we seem to be worried about it more and more-counterproductive if you ask me.

not limited to oregon
the college fix
Wow. That's what I was afraid of. Nationwide. They also made the students fill out a "gender spectrum identification" questionnaire. So they can figure out how or what they identify as. Uh, is that even relevant to the courses? Does someone who wants to better themselves need to have their teachers asking this?

Its amazing how much foothold this race, gender, sexual orientation thing has gotten worse so fast. Dont get me wrong, if someone wants to identify as something that they weren't born as, who am I to say otherwise. Knock yourself out if you feel that way. I don't, maybe because I am old or misinformed or something. But please, don't push it down the throats of young impressionable people. My wife showed me a commercial for mens tampons.....what? I know I am not a rocket scientist but I am confused as to what a male would use them for besides a severe nose bleed maybe. And I think that's probably reaching.

I don't have a problem if someone honestly has a problem deciding (or discovering) what gender or non-gender they are, but just in jest let me guess that if I had claimed to being a Eunuch growing up, I could have been treated really special.

Today, I actually feel more like a Eunuch than ever before, does that count?

My brat has her Bachelor's in education. She did one year as a teacher's aide and said "Screw this!".

I better expand on this some. It wasn't the interaction with the students that twisted her tail. She worked a private preschool during her off hours at the university, she loved it. The BS in the public school district did her in.

I think your daughter was right to walk away. It's supposed to be about the students and the teaching of the actual courses not the politics. Let their parents direct them in their lives, not the teachers personal opinions. In high schools here the teachers pushed their political beliefs. My sons are pretty strong mentally and in their own beliefs and thoughts. So I don't think I have to worry about them falling into the traps being set for them. My son flat refused to do the gender identification and white privilege worksheets. Said this is not what he's paying them to teach him. He knows already that he is a white male that works hard for his earnings. Nothing given to him beyond what we as his parents have provided. Which I think is safe to assume no matter what color, religion, gender you are, all parents would provide any and all they could to their kids.

This is what white liberal Americans have been striving for. You want to learn about a issue that will have you scratching your head, Google "Theybies". Where infants are not assigned gender till age 4! I always figured when a baby was born, that part was obvious?

Trade school.....Learn a skill, grow a job and you get to pick all the cool classes! Or go to college and study left handed puppetry and go 60K in debt before you even get a job. Or do like me, Say F it all and join the Corps! Talk about a reboot! Best decision I ever made....My kids go to private Lutheran school, this crap doesn't make it past the front door...in! I love the teachers there.

I so wish we would have saved up and sent him to a private Christian college as well. Initially he was going to go to an auto tech program. But even a surprise to me, he decided to become a teacher, a history teacher. Though with the way American history is being rewritten I'm not sure how this will play out for him. And genderless babies? That's very messed up, and going to mess up the kids growing up in that environment I would imagine. Other countries dont need to fight us, we will destroy ourselves from within our own borders. Sad, so sad.

Received an AA degree in 1982, never had a problem finding work before that or after that (until 2009-read on).

Returned to a public California State University to complete a Bachelor's degree, graduating in 2009. I have not worked since 2009 graduation. Put in many, many applications (over the internet) not one offer, not one interview, nothing.

Gave-up job "hunting" (and I'm not a quitter) and moved to Mexico to make ends meet until social security finally kicked in last year. My AA degree, my BA degree, and 36 years work experience (law enforcement and other stuff) evidently didn't mean squat.

Geez that’s even worse than I thought. Oregon is pretty bad, I’m in one of worst spots in lane county.

Few people go to school to become an educator. Education should not be a trade. Be what you are interested in and if you end up being an educator so be it. Circumvent all of the pressure and indoctrination.

I saw a preview for that show "call me jazz" I was baffled to even understand how this is even a show that anyone would want to watch. I hear you dibbons, I worked for 15 years for the state, would be the acting trades supervisor and projects manager as needed when people were on vacation or medical leave. Then when the positions became available to apply for I couldn't get an interview for them, even though I was doing the job. They said my education levels on paper didn't meet the qualifications. How was I qualified to be doing the job, but not qualified to get the job? I did all the on the job trainings. My wife just told me that my son going to college just told her he is thinking about getting back into welding and going to a welding trade school. With our new shop he can go right from trade school to business owner/operator and have be ahead of the curve instantly. I am going to hope this is what he chooses, but not push him into it. If its not of his own choice it won't stick. My sister in law said that her daughter is going to school in Klamath Falls and taking the same courses and they dont have any of the gender, white privilege or stuff like that going into the courses.

My wife calls colleges "liberal indoctrination centers". And after seeing what at least the college in our areas are teaching, I think I would have to agree with her.

This may sound a bit off....but I am truly grateful that I am more than halfway thru this thing called life...I think, with the way things are spiraling, that society as we know it is doomed. Thinking at some point someone is going to need to push the "reset" button.

I dont think they even teach US history in college anymore unless it's to bash it. My son loved history too, he thought of being a history teacher but he as a speech impediment. He's not "speech challenged", he F'n stutters! He knows it, I know it.. no big deal to either of us. He still has friends, communicates just fine with them. Now he's studying to be a forensic psychologist, whatever that is? Someone told me its a lock for a job with law enforcement, or justice dept. Whatever pays his bills!

Aww man that is a cop out. Keep digging for what you think is right. Never give up on your beliefs. What you believe can change but don't give up. It's not that bad. Look at our history. Man we got it good.
Take advantage.

My older son has a pretty severe speech stutter as well. But like you said, no big deal to him, us his friends or employer. He can still outwork almost anyone else in his job, got excellent grades in school. Wrenches like a pro. I am not going to tell him he cant succeed because of it, because in my opinion he is successful in life. All my buddies think he is the most skilled young man they know, as well as my other son. I taught them young to be the best at whatever they did, that would be what people see in them most. A hardworking man with pride in theirselves.

My daughter works with children that are needy and folks donate clothes for them, this is a state job and she decided to organize the clothes, she labeled drawers with boy's underwear and girls dresses and such. Well she got in trouble and was disciplined for doing it, she said now she was told kids clothes are unisex and they get to decide for themselves what they want to wear, and they made her remove all the labels. She called me crying and said she was trying to do good, I assured her she did and not to let it get to her, that the country is going to hell in a basket if we don't start trying to save it.

Save it from labeling? Come on Mitch. We got to roll with it.
