I thought I would start a thread of my Duster, I’m building in Australia. I’m building it for Drag Challenge (our version of Drag Week). It’s going to be 410, reverse manual 727 and and 8 3/4 diff. I’ve put up a couple of photos and will keep updating if people are interested.

Looks great! I have a 410 in my Barracuda. If you can find a 904, they hold up behind 410's and are considerably faster than a 727. My friend has 2 A bodies that run 10.50's using 904's. I have a Street 410 and mine runs 12.20's with 3.23's. Not the one in the picture

I second the 904 choice. 35 lbs lighter and a bunch is rotating weight.

I will 3rd the 904 choice. I'm running very low 10s in a heavy 71 Dart with a 904. Cool car BTW!

X4 - Back in the '70's, Chrysler did some testing and found that if both transmissions and converters are built to the same level/spec, a 904 will be about .15 faster in the 1/4 mile than a 727. I've also never seen a 904 grenade like a 727! Only concern might be in the long term use of the 8 3/4 if the car runs well and hooks hard. But less gear, the better. (No trans brake, I hope.)

I wish you all would stop saying this. People used to GIVE me 904s. Now I have to pay for them. In fact, I need one now. It just ain't right.

I guess I will also point out that one benefit not yet mentioned is, that they are easier for an old man with a bad back to lift up onto the bench.

Thanks fellas. The reason I went with the 727 my engine guy gave me a killer price on the rebuilt 727 and converter, I couldn’t pass up on the deal and he is also going to reflash the converter when the engine is built and dynoed.
