I'm looking to do a front disc conversion on my 73 Dart with 10" front drums. I want to maintain the sbp because I only want to swap the brakes and not the rear axle, wheels etc. I really like the 14' tire, white wall and wheel cover look and can't be bothered with the expense and hassle of swapping the axle and wheels. All the kits I see are for 72 and down. What are my options?

Thanks

Possibly wilwoods or PirateJack depending on the wheels you have. Then maybe OEM Kelsey Hayes?

I have 14s and sbp now and the more I looked the more I saw going to bbp was more realistic for me.

Ok, let me be "salesman" here and show you what i have, for your consideration.

That looks great, man. My car is a 73 though, just to be clear. Will this set up still work? Any other mods beside lower ball joint? And, do I get a lower ball joint for 73 or 72 and down? Alignment needed afterward? Lots of questions, but I want to do this once with no hassles or surprises. Thanks.

I will just say thing, hemi7gtx is straight shooter, I've purchased from him and paid via paypal. before the funds even fully cleared my account, I've had my packages, every time. Great guy

You would need to change your "upper control arms to the "small ball joint" 1972 and earlier ones to use my brake set up on your car.
You already have a large ball joint, even though you have a slant 6 car.
And yes, you would also need a 65-72 A body DISC BRAKE lower ball joint.

Seems like your thinking this kind of swap out, but no matter which way you go, it does sorta, kinda, get expensive in the pocket book.

maybe. my 74 with front drums and the 5x4 pattern had the smaller ball joint. learned that the hard way.

You need to start a wanted thread or did your fellow members do that for you? :poke::lol:

im used a stainlees steel brakes kit on a 10'' drum spindle on a 71 duster , came with everything , had dual patterns , 4'' bc and 4 1/2'' bc on the hub/rotors . and nice four piston calipers , in alum or iron . this kit does add width to the track so your tires will get closer to the fenders . and 14'' steel rims would not fit over the alum calipers .

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. There is so much to consider. Amazing that one model year difference (73 vs 72 and down) clouds the water so much.

well this is one way to tell of stock disc's , caliper in the front of the spindle 73 n later large bolt circle 4 1/2 , caliper in the rear of the spindle 72 n earlier small bolt circle 4 . i have factory front disc setups if wanted .
