How Are You (We) Conserving Fuel & Energy?

-
Our recycling pick up is every other week & 2 of us just about fill that big ol thing. But our trash barrel is a LOT less full.
I take used oil for recycle when I'm going for something else
Most of the house has LED lighting, got lucky-it was there when we bought.
I like to say I'm conservative, but really I'm cheap-like Tighter than a Bullfrogs ***, & that's watertight. We don't turn on the AC until its HOT, & the heat is set on about 57 through the winter. My Dome is bald so I wear a knit cap to bed.
I don't go out of my way to plan trips accordingly, but I also try not to go out unless I really need to. But when I do, Im kind of a jerk to the gas pedal.

Sometimes driving conservatively makes no difference. I experimented one week (took a lot of discipline) with a full tank of gasoline in my parent's new '71 383 Road Runner driving my normal route to school, but pretending I had an egg between my right foot and the accelerator. Worked out to 12.5 MPG, the exact same mileage that I calculated during my normal (not so conservative) driving routine.

Well, I eat less these days (conserving fuel) and do more actively (increased fuel economy) and sleep well every night for more hours than I used to (decreased energy consumption).

In all honesty, we recycle everything we can, maintain energy efficiency in all our appliances and the HVAC settings are optimized for minimum energy consumption while maintaining comfort. I also avoid commuting during the worst times and work from home when I can to avoid burning fuel commuting.

My motivations are primarily financial and secondarily environmental. But they are not mutually exclusive. What benefits one generally benefits the other.

My idea of recycling is "buy used" (and thrift stores.) I haven't bought ANY new clothes for YEARS. I have two HF cherry pickers, both used. Never owned a new vehicle. Likely never will. I did buy a new TV LOL the first new one I've had since back in the CRT '80's, and it turned out to be a POS

To me, hot rodders ARE the original recyclers. Period.

I found the best way to save energy and not produce waste. Drink DRAFT beer. The kegs are reused and refilled. No bottles or cans made or put in trash. Mugs are washed and reused. Winner in every way!! I spent my vacation working out that solution a pint at a time.

Doing less work in my shop and haven’t had my 8 motor flowbench running.

That's only because you are screwing the pooch, not because you are trying to conserve anything. I'm still hoping beyond hope you're going to finish the grudge car.

And it's OK to do less. You EARNED it.

They don't want to admit it, but eliminating urban zoning would save BILLIONS of every dollars, and thus energy, every year.

I started cleaning my shop hoping I would want to spend more time in there. I have 3 engines to build at least so I gotta get moving. Way to many 1/2-3/4 finished projects laying around. Hopefully my son will get the bug and want to finish his car instead of driving for other guys. That would surely get my interest back again.
