Peugeot? Yikes....

I was a European car guy long before I got bit by Mopars. I like the precision feel of older Audi's and Mercedes stuff, back when American cars Were built with course thread bolts and early thermoformed plastic interiors. Next to my Duster is a 93 Mercedes S class, arguably the largest engineering budgeted car ever (at least at the time). Something over a billion dollars to engineer that thing. Looking at the two, I would have never known they'd be the same company one day. I have owned 4 old Alfa Romeo's, so I was excited to see that FCA could bring them back (even if it's temporary). I like certain cars for my own certain reasons and this merger with Peugeot is going to be an interesting one. It will expand everyone's parts bin's at the very least, and we might get a new taste of styling on the updated Chargers and Challengers.

Plus, watching everyone try to pronounce Peugeot will be fun too!

One of my favorite cars is the BMW E30.
They were simple , balanced and an absolute blast to drive . Kind of the A Bodies of Germany !

LOL. I've known for decades this country is long lost. This thread proves it.

When eurothink is perpetuated as a good thing, we are lost.

My families left Europe for a reason. They left their European thinking behind. Let's face it...Europe is only the way it is because the US bailed it out in two world wars, which we should have stayed the hell out of.

History is a hard taskmaster.

I wonder if this means we can run "eurotrash" bumperstickers now?

Maybe we'll see some interesting small or mid-size cars once again from "Dodge". One can only hope.

I was hoping for such with Fiat. They have some bulletproof small military vehicles. That could easily have carried over to their FCA line for USA customers, but it didn't.

thats because when an american (or what some want to pretend is an american) car company sells a compact car they just can't compete with jap cars. they just don't sell. seems that the big three have pretty much given up in that market and left it to the jap cars..

They never have been able to. IMO the Pinto and Vega were the US's last two best models aimed at the jap car market. Actually, I thought both did pretty good.

The mid-size and smaller car markets are extremely competitive and are where the Japanese and Europeans put most of their resources developing their cars, since in Europe and Asia cars are smaller on average. The profit margins are also slim; a company has to sell a lot more small economy cars to make money compared to bigger cars with more "stuff". For a company like FCA that gets most of its sales from trucks and big cars there isn't much sense dumping a bunch of money trying to develop a competitive small car; this is where Peugeot would potentially come in, they already have the resources and know-how for making small stuff.

What gets me is how most Americans don't put much thought into the vehicle they drive daily to get around; seriously, people in this country need to stop buying so many damn pickup trucks. How can someone not feel like a selfish dick commuting to work by themselves in a 6-7000 lb truck that gets 15 MPG or worse and probably cost $50k new, and they don't tow or haul anything more than a couple times a year, if that? I don't get it. Even if someone doesn't care about the environment it's extremely wasteful.

doubt americans will buy a small car with the dodge/chrysler name on it.. they have no faith in them... they (myself included) will stick with honda and toyota for those cars..

Me too, Dodge/Chrysler would really have to come out with something revolutionary to even stand a chance. I decided once I need a (relatively) modern driver I'll get a third-gen (late-2000s) Acura TL. I did struts and oil change on a 2001 Acura 3.2TL with 160k miles, thing drove like it was brand new and the interior fit and finish was excellent. Not to mention it hauled *** with that V6 and 5-speed auto, it even bang-shifted at WOT. Guy who owns the car asked me if something was wrong and why it did that, I said "Nope! It does that so it goes faster!" lol

I'm glad some of you accept any and everything, but it's my freedom of choice not to. I don't like or accept that a foreign car company has control over what used to be the best Muscle car producing manufacturer in the world. I don't have to like or accept it, either. This isn't a European car forum. I don't give a **** about European car, nor do I have to.

That also doesn't mean my opinion is any less right or less educated as anyone else's. That's my opinion and I'm stickin to it.

Makes absolutely zero difference to me who buys who or merges, as I'll be driving a 70's Mopar for the rest of my life.
We have never bought a new car and never will.

I don't think Chrysler or Dodge have any small car's left in there line up do they. And another thing, if Dodge would take lessons from Hyundai with sale's and especially service they would do a lot better. They still run the dealerships like they did 30 years ago. There behind on the times.

Mergers between large corporations are complex and confusing...usually means a lot of smoke and mirrors, fat cats get rich and lots of other folks get fucked.

I think the Charger is the smallest in US. Neon is available in Mexico and Middle East

Yup biggest reason I'll never buy a new Chrysler and why when looking for a new truck I didn't even step foot on a Dodge/ram dealers lot. I this area the Chrysler dealerships all suck. In my personal experience anywAy.

If B bodies weren't so damn expensive......and I may yet.......I'd do same thing. LOVE to have a 70 Plymouth Belvedere/ Satellite with a simple Magnum EFI 5.2 or 5.9 or a hemi.

That's how they are around here. They've never dealt or offered to deal. Even with cash money. It's stupid.
