FINALLY GOT IT BACK!

That's really a cool story. So many of us wish we still had some of the cars we, or our parents drove.

Enjoy!
Pat

Finally got car to the body shop today.the long process begins.....interesting in looking at the original v24 where they masked off, and where you can actually see black overspray where the fender bolts on at the top. Definitely not touching that 48 year of over spray!

You staying with the drag racing theme or try and put it back to stock? Tubs staying?

Yes since it was always a drag car, going to keep tubs and Dana. It will have stock appearance. Stock interior just a few gauges and some kind of hurst shifter

Not true without pics!:)

This is an incredible car with a heartwarming back story...amazing stuff. Congratulations on reclaiming a piece of family history!!

Can I ask a totally honest question here? Please don't take this as a criticism of the car.
Were the rear quarters rusty? What could have caused this? I had always assumed that exposure to the elements (especially winter road treatments) were the culprit.

For the record, it wouldn't matter if this car was a rusted hulk. IMO, it would be worth any amount of investment of time and energy.

Mrgtx Where the primer is where the work was done preparing for the wheel tubs. I can assure you there is no rust on the car.

Waterbox at the track is my guess.

If it was me, I'd blur the VIN on those pics, or you're going to have more than one of these cars....

Not bad for 48 year old paint and decal!

Steve I have been at your shop you have more cool stuff than any one person should have! Lol we are about the same age and we’re both lucky to grow up during this era!

That is so cool that you have that car back. You know my love for 71 Dusters. Thee were the first pics I ever saw of your car. Orange non the less. Now your my Hero. If you need any parts let me know. Even if its just small parts. I have tons of hardware that I will help you with.

I have a request. I need pictures of the black out around the engine bay. I am going to be painting that brown Duster in late Nov. I would like to get it as close to original as possible. My orange Duster was not correct. I never thought to take pictures of it years ago when it was butter scotch. I stripped and repainted it several times never the original color. Thanks Steve

I will get some pics for you! I will definitely be looking for parts along the way. For those of you that have never been to his place, I drove 4 hours to get there, and was not disappointed! And by way he knows how to keep his shop warm! Lol

Oldmanmopar asked for some engine bay V24 pics so I thought I would share with everyone. Notice the over spray on top of passenger fender by bolts. None on driver side lol

X heads , Some of those warantee blocks had the thicker webbing you can add 4 bolt center mains and also thicker cylinder walls. It can be seen just by removing the timing cover by the larger machined surface. It will look like this same as an X block or T.A. block

Love this story. Congrats
Personally I would leave it alone and just fix what needs to be fix and that's it and drive it. What a story!
Please keep us posted.

I hope you are not restoring it. I would just blend the paint were the primer spots are and fix the engine bay holes and blend the paint there also. This is way to cool to restore.

Nope not restoring.........keeping as much original paint as possible. Wait till you guys see a pic of the hounds tooth interior! It's really cool IMHO

If you look closely at engine bay you can see lots of factory funny things...........LOL not going to touch it!
