Hey guys. I have a stock small bolt pattern 8.75 rear end. It is in great shape and semi complete. It is complete minus a center section. Drums are great, brake hardware is newer along with shoes. It has factory vent and hose. I have the 2 sets of axles that would go with it. The housing, backing plates, and drums are painted in Por 15.
I am switching to a Dana due to racing with a 4 speed. What is some th thing like this worth?

Also, I have a cone style suregrip unit in great shape. What would that be worth unit be worth?
Thanks.

The housing is worth 400.00 to me. Depending on condition and rust and year

What it is not worth is the ridiculous prices people are a asking for them these days. I remember when $500 was a holy cow price. Now people are asking for $1000 and up.
Its enough to almost build a Chebby.

Of course, if you want mine, its $1500 :)

Just from what I have seen the past few years, bare housings go for around $400-$600 depending on condition. This would be for an original A body with housing. Shortened housings will go for less.

Ok, this housing is not all rusted. I painted it 25 yrs ago with Por 15. Now is the 400 to 600 with axles and brakes I assume.
BTW, I agree with this price inflation. Because of th base ridiculous prices, no younger guys are into the hobby, especially Mopars. These guys will die and their 1200 rear ends will be scrapped by their kids. Ha

Any idea on the Sure Grip Unit. No gears or carrier housing, just the unit.

400-600 for a complete housing with backing plates and axles? So with a 489 3.23 third member it's worth ? 1000.00! If you wana live in the past, I bought a brand new off the show room floor 1970 340 4 speed Duster for $2805.00. Whats it worth today used?

Now is the 400 to 600 with axles and brakes I assume
I paid:
100 for 2 - 5x4" axles
600 for a housing from CA (paid way too much)
65 for 2 loaded 10x1.75 backing plates
35 for pinion snubber
50 for shock plates
250 for 742 disc type trac Lok 2.76 gears
25 for or u bolts

So about 1100 plus shipping

So two pairs of axles, housing backing plates, no center section but with a sure grip unit. I've seen bare housings on here go for like 150 and shippin. So, I'd say what you have all together is probably worth in the 600-800 range. Sold separately, possibly more. Get a case and set it all up assembled, certainly more.

LMAO That's why these threads aren't a great idea. Are you selling or buying? 2 different prices. Do your homework and check out the hundred or so ads here. You can figure by the date and the selling price what they are selling for.

I have looked at some of these ads and they are all over the place. Geez, some guys want a ton just for the small bolt pattern drums. 25 yrs ago I paid 100 bucks and needed only brake hardware that I got out of a junkyard. As they say, it's only worth what someone will pay for it. Thought I could get a little more incite from members who have bought and sold, plus the ads that sold do not show the actual sold price. Thanks for those who responded.

Maybe a B or E body. But in the last 2 years I haven't seen an unmodified A body housing for under 300.00

I think it's a regional thing. I've seen them around here for as little as 100 for a bare housing to as much as 500 for a bare housing. Just no rhyme or reason.

My last 3 housings I sold for $250. They were cut down c and e body housings. The axles were resplined 4 1/2 in pattern that sold for $200.

I can't sale the housings that cheap now because the cost to buy them and have them narrowed has gone up. The same housing now would cost me $400.

Ok, so with axles and brake setup. I could get approx get around 600 bucks.
Thanks guys

You said trac loc do you mean power loc?

A good useable with a tight cross pin sure grip anywhere from $100 to $250.
New power loc cost around $375 to $425.

RRR is correct (for once... LOL). I would have paid any amount for one down here in S. Texas, there are almost none at all. Most are far, far away (shipping costs).

Too many names...... my brain, My Brain

Power Loc, and I got the center with a complete E body drum to drum assy at a wrecking yard for 250, only time in my life I got a good deal!

I also remember and have a receipt to prove it that you could get a trans rebuilt for 350.00 BUT that was in the 80s! Now it is in the 1000 to 1500 range.

Yeah, the price on 8 3/4 rears has skyrocketed. It’s damn near almost cheaper to build a Dana. I don’t even look at 8 3/4s at the swap meets anymore. Dana 60 for me from here on out.

For me, I'll just buy a complete '65-70 B-body 8.75 for 250 bucks. Looks better under Dusters anyways..... but yes, the prices posted above are what they are bringing....
