My question is mainly for dealership mechanics, but I welcome comments from owners of Fiat era Chargers also. A friend of mine is a mechanic at the county sheriffs a few cities away. He's maintained a fleet of Chargers as well as other makes for quite a few years, so he's seen the newer models come and go. He's told me for years that the Fiat era Chargers suffer from insufficient gauge wire used throughout, as well as different fuel issues and front end problems. Based on what he sees, he's stated he wouldn't own one from 2011 to 2018 based on reliability. He speaks highly of the ones up to 2010 though. He's a straight shooter and a Mopar guy so I have to put some weight on what he says. My point for asking is to gain others opinion and experience with these cars, as my sons going to be ready to drop some money on something after Christmas. Your experiences are welcome FABO!

I have a 2014 R/t Charger. It now has about 78k on it. The only issue I have had with it other than recalls was the backup camera failed. It was only a year old at the time so warranty covered it. I follow along on a Charger forum and most of the electrical issues that are brought up seem to be with the 2016 and up cars.

I appreciate your info. Glad you've had good luck with yours. Maybe we'll narrow our search to under 2016!

Fiat didn't take ownership of Chrysler until Jan. 2014. Doubtful if there were any Fiat engineering changes made before that date. The way big corporations work, it probably took years before anything important got changed by Fiat.

That seems logical. I'm not saying they made the changes, just that they occurred in that time frame.

Same small wire deal ono most Euro cars. Trying to save the planet one wire at a time.

Computers are a constant issue on late model Mopars of all sorts. My daughter in law had to buy a $1100 computer to keep her tail lights working on her van a few years ago.

For God's sake don't visit Scotty Kilmer's YouTube channel...
You won't sleep at night.

TIPM's courtesy of Mercedes Benz and their brief fling with VW.
The Totally Integrated Power Module is the bane to Mopars from 2009 to 2014.
I don't know who thought this was a good idea, other than the bean counters.

A few years ago I was looking for a rag top for my wife. Local dealer had a Volvo in stock...nice car low miles. I talked to a local shop owner that works on import cars...he told me to run away as fast as I can. Big issues with electrical systems and tiny tiny wires.

Family member has a 2011 with the 3.6, engine is very quite good on gas burns/leaks
nowhere at 100K. Trans good but has to downshift a lot on hilly roads which says not enough torque its weight/power. Some minor computer issues, trunk sometimes opens by itself!? Info screen will blank out for a day or so then return. Typical brake
warping and caliper sticking (most newer cars with caged calipers).

What the hell kind of car can you buy that doesn't have issues of some kind? There built to fail! I'm really sick of owning cars and trucks. All you do is work on them if you hang on to them or lose fists full of cash if you buy a new one. Not to mention the insurance cost. It's more than the car payment per month here.
I think a place by the beach were all you need is a golf cart or even a Moped for personal transportation.

2015 R/T here. 29 mpg Hwy 24 combined. No issues other than a purge valve at 70k miles. I put a set of plugs in it at 40k ish miles. Bone Stock other than a green filter. Also did brakes at probably 45k. I would buy it again.
