It was a nice peaceful morning enjoying my first cup of coffee when my cell phone rang. It was a recorded female voice informing me that there was a warrant out for my arrest. Ruined my whole morning, not because I realized I am a fugitive from the law, but because how technology and crime/extortion are joining forces and now beginning to get on my nerves. Where are Batman and Robin when you need them?

I'm not paranoid but I do listen to the voices in my head. When the voices stop, I wonder if they're planning something against me??????????/

No one will ever call to tell you such a thing.
A cop would show up with a warrant and handcuffs instead.:D

I occasionally get an email that says they hacked my camera and microphone when I was satisfying myself, and if I don't send them some amount of Bitcoin to the listed account they are going to mail all my contacts the video.:D
The stupid part is that I don't have a camera or microphone either one on my computer.
Dumbasses, nice try though.

were they also going to revoke your social security number?

I have been getting calls from a number that is in my Contact list on my cell phone. Normally they do not leave a message. Today they did...saying that I need to contact them at a different number, that they have a felony arrest warrant for me. I have not spoken with the person that is associated with this number in my phone in a while but I know it was not her. I gave her a call...after we both laughed for a while she did say she was going to contact her phone company about it as I have not been the first of her companies customers to receive a call similar to this.

I've gotten a couple of calls like that over the years. I told them to "come on down", but expect to be greeted with gun fire, never heard from them again.

There's an app that lets you call someone but shows someone else's number when your phone rings. Maybe they used your friends number not knowing it's on your favorites list??

They are called spoof numbers. They have used police dept. , social security and other governmental numbers. You would be surprised how many people pay up then call the police to ask if its legit.

Phone rings... I don't recognize the number.
I end call and immediately block that number.
I probably have a couple hundred blocked numbers.

Any unknown caller, i let them leave a message. Callers from outside my area code get blocked. But i have been getting local numbers pulling the same thing.

I got that one too, I asked which one did you catch 'cuz I got a few more if you need them.
Bitcoin, how does that even work? Not that i want to know.

I would

Back when I was working, had a job that had mucho travel, setting in airports for hours. I would jump on those calls just to pass the time, mess around for nearly 20 minutes or so, I would play along like I was a moron, finally we would get to the credit card number, then I would give them some off the rack number, short a diget or two, go back over the credit card number with them time and time again, interchanging a diget, just changing things up,,was huge fun when they would give up and disconnect the call. Interesting, after a while my phone received none of those bogus calls.

So if you have the time, jack with those guys, get em hooked and on the line for time on end, won't be long and they will realize your number is wasting their time.

IDNKFS, but I am thinking that when you block your number, you are letting the obnoxious caller know that number is real, so they will continue to call and just use a different spoofed number. I think the best plan is to pick up and tie them up on a useless call, which they don't like or let the call go to voice mail, like the number is not monitored.

Wasn't a scam but about 5 years ago while in JC Penney I got a call from "Microsoft saying that I was downloading illegal Rockband songs and thet they were going to have to "suspend my account". I tell the woman on the phone ( who sounds middle eastern) " Look, I'm a 55 year old man, I'm not downloading illegal Rockband songs"! By this time I'm getting really annoyed (and loud), my wife is getting embarrassed because I am raising my voice to this woman on the phone. The woman is insisting that she is "suspending my account and then hangs up. I look at the number on my phone and it's a 800 number so I call it back. I get a voice mailbox and I leave a angry message saying that they had better not suspend my account and that they needed to call me back immediately and I hang up. 5 minutes later I get a call from my nephew and he's laughing his *** off. Apparently he used a app that not only spoofed a number but also changed his voice so he sounded like a middle eastern woman. The next day I get a call from some poor woman who has NO IDEA what I was talking about. Boy was I embarrassed, I still have to get him back for this.

My first job at a Chevron station and I still had not even kissed a girl. Received a call at work from "Gaylene", who I did not know but she said she was a friend of a friend and wanted to meet me. I was busy, so I got her number and called her back later.

When I called back, I spoke to the real Gaylene, who had no idea who I was or why I claimed she wanted to meet me. Some joker friend of my sister's faked the first call and set me up.

And which (agency) did you call to investigate that #$%^&?
