Good evening all,
I recently finished installing a 4 wheel brake kit on my 71 Duster so I could have the 5x4.5" bolt pattern. Fronts are the typical 73' style but rears are the MBM setup.

The car previously had the manual brake Kelsey Hayes front but drums on the rear . As expected the master cylinder does not work well with the new setup. I prefer to keep it manual but am open to suggestions. I also read I should gut the proportioning valve so it acts as a distribution block. Ant thoughts on that too?

Thanks in advance.

I'll second the DD master cylinder. I've got four wheel discs with one of Cass's master cylinders and I have a good solid firm pedal. I told him what I had and he recommended one with the right size pistons. It's a late model aluminum one as well.

Excellant! Thank you for sending this link. Are you using a booster with your brakes or just the manual master cylinder?

I converted my 71 Duster to manual disc brakes up front with correct size drums in the rear. Got the master cylinder and correct proportioning valve from Dr Diff, car stops very well.

Ok great. Did you change anything with the proportioning valve too? I was planning on removing the internal items for even distributing

I think you might be thinking of the residual valve in the rear line fitting on the master cylinder.
A lot of people remove those with rear discs, but one of my friends said he didn't remove it and his brakes work just fine.
I expected to feel a really hot disc from dragging but it wasn't.

Getting ready to swap mine from drum to disc and will be finding out.:D

OP has a GREAT looking car. I love Mopars built for handling instead of Drag Racing!

Trailbeast ; keep us informed on how and what u come up with.
I have 4 wheel discs ,and come to find out , it doesn't stop as good as it should , even w/ a 15/16 alum. master cyl.. , got to showing off a while back and almost went out in traffic trying to stop it .
Can barely hold it on the line when trying to stall it up too!---------bob

Will do, but if you don't hear from me I did something wrong.:D

I have power brakes and will be using the stock disc/drum master and see what happens.

I know this thread is a few months old, but I’ve always heard that if you’re running discs front and rear, run a drum/drum distribution block. That’s what I plan on trying when the time comes.
