I am thinking about buying a 5.9 360 Engine from a 2001 2500 Ram truck. Right now I have a blown 360 engine in my car. It was from a 71 truck. Should I buy this engine and what stuff would I need to buy to make it work in my 1967 Dart. The engine is still in the truck and it seems like a good engine. Engine had 86k on it.

I would like to keep it full injection if possible. Not sure if I can buy a computer to hook it up to my dart.

Buy a 4 barrel intake for the magnum motor, swap your carb and ignition on to it, maybe your current pulley/belt set up. And get the right oil pan. That would be your lowest cost option to get it back on the road.

I’ve done this with a ‘00, 5.9 into my ‘79 B body. What you need to do for the old skill way is;

Ignition box to fire off the distributor
(I suggest a vacuum advance unit but you probably already have that on your old engine anyway.)
Intake and carb
Exhaust manifolds or headers.
Hoses to the radiator could be a PIA to fit. FWIW

Will the 4 barrel intake work from the old 360 engine. It’s elder Brock one. And what about the oil pan? Will the the one on the other engine work? Thanks

The “EDELBROCK” from the older engine is an “LA” engine that will not work. Clean that older one up and sell it in order to roll that money over into a “Magnum” intake from “EDELBROCK” or a cheaper one from Professional Products.

Ok great can you send me some links to the right intake? Thanks

What?!?! Send you a link? Are you for real?!?!

LMAO!!!!!

Go to Summit racing and go to the side bar, start searching for Carbureted Dodge Magnum intake manifolds.

I'm just getting going on my swap. Using a 5.9 out of an 01 van.

Went with Edelbrock Performer RPM heads from Mancini. Edelbrock 7577 Air Gap intake and will run a 4 bbl carb. New timing chain, using my car oil pan. I'm keeping the V-belts but I sourced a 71(?) timing cover with the timing marks on the driver's side. Will also run an electric fuel pump with a block off plate.

I just wanted to do it once so I sent my cam to Oregon Cam for a regrind, and have the block at the machine shop getting bores honed, new rings, main, rod, and cam bearings.

Look in the How-to section on FABO. I think Gabe posted a bunch of info on his swaps.

Sorry I wasn’t for sure if that was the right one. $390 is a little high. Do you know I there are any other brands that are cheaper?

Yeah, there's only two choices that I know of with the Magnum bolt pattern. Magnum intakes bolts go vertical where LA are angled.

Since there's only 2, they charge what they want. The other choice is Professional Products CrossWind Intake Manifolds 55026

The M1 intake is a third choice but they aren't being made any longer and are even more $$.

M1 single planes on E-Gag often exceed well past $400.
I have not seen any M1 dual planes lately. They are super hard to find.
The Edelbrock RPM for the Magnum will make the best power all around and up top.
The Professional Products / Speed Master are inexpensive and makes decent power. There are a bunch of guys here that run that intake will really good results.

G’ US -H!!!
I e been looking for one for half way to forever and you just pop up with one like PRESTO! Wabbo!
DANG!

Jump on that Marylander!

Be sure you. get the flexplate with the engine from the truck.
You can do one of 3 things for an intake.
1. Drill the magnum heads and use the intake from the Dart motor.
2. Buy a magnum intake.
3. Buy differant heads that would use the LA intake you have.
With that low of mileage I would not tear the short block down. I would knock out the freeze plugs and flush out the water jacket then put in new plugs.
If not using a magnum intake then either drill the heads or replace them.
Take the front off the blown motor and the oil pan and mounts and put them on the magnum.
You will need to check the header to side of block where the side mounts are for clearance. Grind as needed.
While the front cover is off you can replace the timing chain and gears if needed.
You can also replace the oil pump when changing the pan and pickup.
As for the torque converter. The magnum flex place balances the engine. Not a weight on the converter. You need a neutral balanced converter. If your converter has a weight on it for the 360 you can remove it and make that converter neutral balanced.
You will need to oblong one of the bolt holes where the converter bolts to the flexplate in order to bolt the converter up.
Of course you'll be reusing the distributor from the motor that's in the car already.

OK, that's odd it won't display the text of the magnumswap.com link.

Tried it 2 ways.

Also don't forget you will need an electric fuel pump... remember the Magnum had fuel injection and had a fuel pump inside the gas tank so it did not have the provision on the front of the cam to run a manual fuel pump...
Not a big deal as a an electric Edelbrock fuel pump is not only extremely easy to install and to wire up it's really not that expensive. Under $50...
