For Wood Burners: Kindling Cracker

Laying here in front of the fire watching TV I have to grab my axe and make a comment...
I think is a joke!!.. anyone who burns Sirius firewood knows how to handle an axe... All that rapidly tap tap for each piece lol... Noticed they had to speed up the video to make it seem efficient? I would not have to tap tap on each piece. I give it one lick and it's in two, pick up one and it's in two.. I would have split that fire wood faster than him doing it in fast motion..
I think anyone that burns firewood and handles their own axe would know that that was a gimmick...

Anybody who would use a gimmick like that would probably run into the back of an old lady and blame it on her..:poke:..

Seriously.. Who even needs much kindling anyway? Plenty of bits and peices for starting the stove once you're done splitting and stacking..

Besides, a proper fire has enough embers from the night before to start a decent load of wood the next morning.. Why bother making redneck toothpicks?

Any one who is old and trying to make it on their own could benefit from this idea. Thanks dibbons.

If I get to old to cut wood , I’ll just turn up the thermostat!

Looks to be safe and efficient:

I have one of those. It works great. I bought the smaller one. Should have gotten the large one and may still buy the large. Only takes one whack to split the oak I've been using. I like having some small splits standing by to make it easier to light off when I get up in the morning.

Truly a Rube Goldberg invention,
But not the worst way to split kindling.
It has its merits.

We used to pick up the pieces from splitting the wood in the first place and fill metal coffee cans with them and a little kerosene for fire starters.
Not enough kerosene to make the pieces dripping wet, but just enough to make them damp with it, and then keep the can around the corner out of the direct heat with the lid on it.

Yup just like stated.. covered the coals from last night with a few pieces and stuffed one very small piece of junk mail behind it and blew into the fireplace and poof!!!...

And now we're off for the day again, just toss on logs...

I had a friend who was into building these super log splitters for a while. He built one using the front end of a car and a massive hydraulic cylinder.
Hmmm, I may have just figured out what to do with this slant six nobody wants to buy.

LOL I didn't watch the video yet but I can only imagine it's one that was mentioned before I read those things can get extremely dangerous looking! Some of those homemade log splitters are outrageous!!..

Okay I just watched it and those are not even close to dangerous compared to last time...
I think out of all of those videos I seen one lady with safety glasses..

Back when we burned wood, I had the best setup, a good axe and 3 sons.

I got u beat , my son just bought a 25 ton splitter , didn't even have any paint wore off of it , (used?) , for $650 , guess where he stored it !!

A good fire starter is the cardboard off a toilet paper roll, and stuff it with drier lint.
It will burn like crazy.

We used to burn wood out on the farm. Once it got cold enough we lit a fire with newspapers and corn cobs and it stayed lit until spring. Stir up the coals in the morning and start it back up if there was no flame. That old cast iron wood furnace was a monster!
We burned oak and never split a piece.

Firestarter story... The very first time I took my snowmobile up to Mount Hood. I went up to frog lake a common launching spot.. this old man came up to me and said you do have an emergency fire starting kit correct? He holds up a tampon???... After watching my face go into all kinds of quizzical looks he finally says to start a fire??.. the quizzical looks kind of continued... He says you dunk it in your two-stroke oil reservoir and then into your gas tank, pull it out and you have something that will even start a little bit of wet wood on fire....
