don garlits florida mopar association show

Really? So no horse park show?
Well at the present time, they plan on having two shows a week apart? Kind of a division of people. The lady that was in charge of the show at Garlits place is going to keep it going at the original location. The museum.

Personally, having two shows back to back is a plan for failure for everyone. I know that several of the vendors that I spoke to were dissatisfied with the turnout of spectators.

This was only my third time attending the event, but thought that the foot traffic was ok on Saturday, but seemed to be next to nothing on Sunday. As a vendor, I was satisfied with the results that I achieved for the weekend.

From my distant observation, it seemed to me that the show car count was down from previous years. I did not hear any numbers of entrants, but it seemed like it was less than years past.

Hopefully, the two groups can come to a mutual understanding so that the show can survive. Otherwise, those who travel to the show from any distance will have to make a decision on which one that they will support.

It will be interesting to see how it works out in the long run.

I concur, that two shows, on consecutive weekends will be a failure for both. I only live about 30 miles away, but would probably not attend both shows (time and expense). As for the statement about the women that was in charge at the Garlits place, confuses me. I thought both places were run by the Florida Mopar Association.

I might be hesitant to attend either. I go mainly for the swap, then the car show. I too noticed what seemed like fewer venders this year. Two shows a week apart? I'd expect lower attendance at both. Just have the show at Gartlis. More going for the location. You can tour the museum, visit his garage sale and Sonnys and Cracker Barrel are close enough to walk to. The horse park is nice but there's nothing to do there once your locked in.

There was some real nice cars there even if it was less than prior year.

In the past there has also been scheduling conflicts with the Carlisle show in Lakeland.

They had many more cars "under the roof" this year which may have affected the show rows.

I agree though kind of light turn out on all fronts.

Speaking of fronts, I drove from the I-4 corridor, and down there it had rained all night and was raining up until just before I left.

Someone not watching and understanding the RADAR might have simply not set out.

IMO fewer cars, fewer vendors but a good selection. Not well promoted.
Maybe I'm still in awe of what I saw in Carlisle. This was kinda sad. Dividing it
won't help.

It was divided the first year. I drove over an hour to the Garlits show. It was so sad I turned around, and left. Went to the Mopar show at the horse park the next week. Way better.Would have thought the lesson was learned then.
The story I was told then, was that the parking was an issue, because the property next to his was sold, so the show guys had no choice.
Garlits could have bought the property, if he was worried about the show.
I think a lot of the issues come from Garlits wanting a captive audience once a year, when he had the show at his place. JMO.
This year at the Horse Park was no excuse. Poorly advertised Poorly organized, Poorly staffed. Very few vendors(due to poor advertising). The answer is to have one show in the spring, and one in the fall, but who will give in?

Hopefully the organizers of the Horse Park show or the Garlits show will think out the discussion points that have been mentioned above. It is 432 miles one way for me to attend the show. There is no way that I will attend the events knowing that the attendance will be diluted with two shows on back to back weekend. I think that will be the general consensus whether your attending as a spectator, car show participant or a a vendor. It will basically become a social event for the locals supporting which ever side they choose to support.

In regards to having a Spring and a Fall show, I feel that will not work as well. Look at Spring and Fall Carlisle, Spring and Fall Charlotte. On those events, the Fall show's are much smaller than the Spring show. From the vendor standpoint, we look at what show will have the best economical return for our investment of money and time. Most of the vendors that I know are looking at doing less shows and concentrating on the larger venues like Indy, Carlisle and The Nats. Adding another show to the schedule will most likely not happen unless it is in your back door.

From the spectators I spoke to over the weekend, those who had traveled a relatively long distance did the trip knowing that there was basically a show that they could take in every weekend for a month. Even for those spectators, they already have an agenda with a show scheduled each weekend. I seriously doubt that they would be interested in attending basically two smaller Mopar shows on back to back weekends.

I think by the time of the show next year that they will figure out the down side of two shows and come together in the end.

I don't think the show on Don's property is all Mopar.

Pretty sure it's street rod, vintage drag race and 40's ford stuff as well.

Really? Well then, no thanks. I can get all that I want at the Turkey Run.

That is a different show. The one planned for Nov 7-8 is ALL Mopar and is called the 32 Annual Mopars.
