I was reading through the comments below a Global news Youtube piece and this person's comment caught my eye. I don't quite get what the guy's overall point is, but the portion I have hilighted in red I agree with 100%:

Support of Mr. Cherry is so disingenuous. This has nothing to do with "values", criticism, or free speech. Immigrants are not a monolithic group. They're comprised of many people from many different nations, beliefs, races, etc. You can't fairly criticize a person or people for the actions of others who have nothing in common other than they came to Canada. Something that nobody is mentioning here. That along with the fact: How did he, or this veteran who told him, know who was an immigrant not wearing a poppy and who was a native born Canadian not wearing one?

Nothing in common other than they came to Canada. I think that pretty much nails it. Don Cherry recognises the wearing of poppies as a Canadian tradition, and he is fighting to preserve it. Who gives a ****. Piss on Canadian traditions and values. Nothing in common other than they came to Canada. Things like national anthems, the national flag (and the respect it deserves), 100 year old traditions like proud wearing of poppies should serve to promote unity amongst our citizens. Instead, every time some special interest group bitches about our national anthem, they change the lyrics to something "less offensive", our Prime idiot parades around with a rainbow Canadian flag, and Cherry is out of a job. Welcome to Canada: an area on the map that used to be a glorious unified country but is now rapidly filling up with terrific people who have nothing in common other than they came to Canada.
