I have a 71 duster. I need the rear seat ( just the back part where your back rests on) I have the bottom part. Will any A body rear seat work or do I need specific year and model?

Thanks,
Wizard

IIRC the back rest is basically the same, except of course for the fold down models, I used seats from a 75 or 76 Special edition Dart in my 70, the only difference on the backrest that I recall was the tabs that bolt it to the transition pan were in a slightly different location, but not a big deal, The bottom cushion locks were also in a different spot, but you can move the hooks to the correct location.

As missinglinc points out different years can be used but are not necessarily identical. I agree with him that you should use a duster/demon/dart sport (fast back style) seat rather than a 2dr swinger or 4dr body seat which would be way off in shape and attachments.

4 door rear seat base has tapered edges to allow access.

Cuda seats are different from notch to fastback to vert. Also years vary slightly as well, so I would assume there are other differences between models and years.
I would get correct seat.

There's a guy here locally who is advertising his a body fold-down seat as a fold down conversion.. lol...
My Hope Is some unsuspecting enthusiastic new to the Mopar scene person doesn't believe this and over pay for something that won't fit in his car without one hell of a lot of other parts and attachments let alone the back deck and everything else....

So basically, any A body rear seat 2 door model will work/interchange and fit but tabs may be different due to years?
I had to get a rear seat for a 71 Duster, Friend gave me a perfect back seat but it was out of I think? a 74 duster. It fit but the tabs were all wrong. I found a seat out of an old yard and I believe it was out of a 67 dart 2 door? Don't remember. I could have drilled out spot welds and redid it all IF I put them exactly where needed!!!!! I traded the boneyard in my good seat and was happy.

You need a seat from a Duster/Demon/Dart Sport, non-fold down if you want it to fit right.

A-body rear seats are different heights depending on the model, 2 door hardtop seats are a different height than the sport body seats, 4 door seats are a different height than 2-door hardtop seats. Barracuda seats are different fast back to notch. One of the barracuda seats interchanges with another model but I forget which.

It’s really not that hard, and you don’t have to replace the entire package tray

How To: Fold down seat conversion

TMI has a rear seat option for a 70-76 duster. After reading the thread, it seems that this option would not fit my 69 dart 2 door swinger, correct? I'm looking at getting the TMI sport-x pro-classic buckets up front and wanted to match the rear. I bought a rear bench from an old 74 dart sport that fit right in, but I have no idea if it was a 2 or 4 door, neither did the previous owner.

This topic has me curious.
I've messed around with 67 and later A body cars and have only noticed that the bottom sections are different. Maybe I have been just lucky but I thought that every upper section has appeared to be the same in terms of size and fitment....2 door, 4 door, Sedan or Duster/Dart Sport. Have I just somehow got lucky?

All Dart Sports, Dusters Demons and Swingers are 2 door models. As far as I have found the upper section are all basically the same with the exception of the location of the tabs that secure them, (where the bolts go through).

Also note that the fold down rear seats are not interchangeable without major modification.
The bottom section is the same from what I have found, just the backrest is different.

You are correct, because the "package tray" is at a higher location compared to other A body cars.

no way! Try fitting an early A body seat in there, not even close. Then there’s the fold down seat from 64-66 Cudas, convertibles are different in both the upper and lower. Stuck with the make and model you have, and get as close to the year you have.
