So now the Fram HP filters are Chinese? Geez....

It's just a numbers game now days. Profit instead of quality.

I quit using Fram filters back in the 70s when my Ford W motors would rattle at start up with them but wouldn't with an FLA 1 or Wix's.

When I worked at the speed shop, there were a couple race engines that were damaged with the Fram race filter. The cans split open.

Corporate greed is also doing the same to the American work force. Go into any auto parts store, or any other service related business. It's very rare to find anyone who gives a **** anymore.

The O'Reileys I use in Surprise Arizona has an older lady that is good but nobody else in the store cares.

..Another point about "Brand" names. Bought and payed premium price for a "Raybestos" Brand front wheel drive bearing and hub assy. When it came, it had was identical to the cheap house brand part, down to the numbers stamped on the part and the paper work in the box. ..
your paying premium for the warranty, thats it. Look at almost any starter or alternator. same part, different warranty. Rusty will probably vouch for me on that.

Actually the cheaper one had a longer warranty, then the more expensive one.

I call Raybestos to complain about paying twice as much money for the same part. The answer:
"We have nothing to do with that part, we just licensed the use of the Raybestos name".

It's called reboxing and IMO is false advertisement. We saw it everyday at O'Reilly. Would specifically order for instance a Standard Ignition part. The part would come in and be in a BWD box with a little label on the end marked with the Standard part number. lol Total BS. The manager at that store doesn't give a damn like all the rest. He caint pour piss out of a boot. I am really glad I am no longer there.

Huh? The 3 types of older Mopar style alternators I was exposed to were:
"New, not remanufactured, lifetime warranty...$90
"remanufactured" 1 year warranty...$49.
"economy model" 90 day...$29.
The new not reman looked the same but shiny, it was a Cardone or Whatever make. The reman was just that but the case never had a pentastar on it so it was a reman of someone elses casting. maybe that had to grind the pentastar off it for trademark reasons? Economy was just like the reman but a shorter warranty. I always got the reman and turned it in 88 days later if it was the slightest bit off spec. My 351C Ford ate starters. I bought the lifetime warranty one and they paid for that starter 4 times.

Its a fact. Most aftermarket parts are sub-standard. X brand is made to meet or exceed manufacturers specifications. Didnt say which manufacturer or maybe the specifications were for the box it came in.

Applied to a u-joint i did on tuesday,a resonator i did on wednesday and a set of springs i installed friday. For parts that werent quite right cost me more hours than i care to count.
Aftermarket has had 60 years to get the leaf springs right for a 57 chevy, still cant do it,wtf?

Take the genie outta the bottle and take an alternator or starter apart and rebuild your own. There's what? less then 20 parts for each one? duhhhhhhh

But what gets me, is he has TWO Frams on his shelf....and he thinks the other one would have been the right choice?
I better check what's on my pick up. I think they were out of Wix. Dang, got me wondering now. LOL

Lots of guys 'trash talk' the Fram filters including the HP series.

OK ... so what are the good ones then?

Mopar?
Baldwin?
K&N?
Wix?

The list is long....

There's only one Oreilley's that I'll go to. Shout out to Luis at the Windsor, CA store. That guy not only knows his stuff, but he CARES and attends tons of local and not-so-local events. He is helpful, he is dedicated and even talks with my son about the Hot Wheels on display at the counter.

Excellent customer service. With his attitude he needs to be a regional manager.

i'm not convinced it's always corporate greed but maybe survival. If it costs you $1 to make a part and you sell it for $2 you make 100 % profit, or $1. But in China they make 10 for $1 and sell them for 50 cents, $1.50 less than you and make 400% profit, or $4, and if you don't move production to China your done!
It's just economics.

and you get exactly what you pay for
Remember the old repair shop saying?
"You can have it fast, cheap, or good, pick any two"

Same Rant - No Names or Specs?
I think the Fram HP series has the highest burst pressure.
So ... which is 'the best'.?

Off shore quality is now hi in a lot of products, but not all. They have to be or they won't sell. When we started using Chinese windshields they fit poorly and we quit using them.It wasn't long before the fit was perfect.

I use Fram oil, gas and air filters on my daily driver 1996 GMC Sonoma, has 244,000 miles on it, prior to that used Fram oil, gas and air filters on the 1989 Chev Beretta that had over 275,000 miles on it when I traded it for the '96 Sonoma. That is over 1/2 million miles with no filter issues. Add to that:
wifes 1998 Olds Intregue, 175,000 miles
wifes 2011 Nissan Altima, 102,000 miles
my 1983 D150, 40,000 miles
with zero issues.
maybe all you guys are just unlucky, or maybe you listen to too much internet fluff.

Also considering today's products,
* Today you can buy a large screen TV, 65 inches + for less than 600.00 and that TV was likely made in China, the ones I buy have no reliability issues
** Today, all cell phones you buy today has content from China, anyone with cell phone hardware issues?
*** Today, the US cars that are actually built in the USA have decent quality levels, if it was not for world wide competition, we would be driving US built cars with the quality levels of the Vegas, Pintos and Aspens of the mid 70's. And it is not only the Corportate bean counters that had to wake up, the rank and file UAW workers had to also wake up and hear the music. World competition had made the marketplace better for all consumers.
