Nuisance calls

One trick is to answer the call but don’t say a word and make no sound (go on mute if you can).

Once they realize there is no response (computer or human on their end), the call is disconnected and the number is flagged in their data base as “inactive” and they stop calling it. If it rolls to voicemail, it is still considered “active”.

Once I started doing that, my robo and spam calls dropped to nearly zero.

Believe it or not, spoofing a number for caller ID is not illegal here. Don't know how when we banned F'n plastic straws and grocery bags...

I hate them A&W paper, stick-to-my-lips and tear-off-some-skin, got-their-own-flavor, who-knows-what-recycledchit-they're-made-of, brown-straws. I hate 'em enough to not go there any more.
I've been going to A&W since I got my driver's license in 1969. that's 50 stinking years.
I stayed thru the shrinking burgers and the onion rings that can't hold on to their breading. Thru their lousy fries, and their now watered-down, over-priced, flavorless, root beer,
thru their now higher priced fast-food, than a lotta local sit-down restaurants with their pretty, and often flirty girls, some of whom I have known for going on two decades, and more.....
and everything is wickedly over-salted. I kept going, going; but
that brown paper thingy is the last straw.

this is exactly what I have been doing for awhile now....some days I don’t get any spam calls now and my cell is my only phone

Thanks, ill try that. Kim

Most "robo" dialers wait until they hear something on the other end before they transfer a called number to a human.

That explains why you have to say hello 2 or 3 times before the other person speaks.

My SOP used to be- if I said hello and got no response within 2 seconds, I hung up.

That worked fairly well.

Now I'm just no bothered and don't wish to expend the energy so it all goes to VM unless I recognize the number.

I also tell people I prefer text like mentioned above, especially for a one time call.

There are a few states where robo-dialers are illegal.

On my landline, I let most calls go to voice mail, even if I am right by the phone. If it is a legitimate call I will pick up when the caller starts to leave a message. Otherwise I just ignore the call.
I never answer my cell, unless the number is in my contact list. If the caller leaves a message, that is legit, I will call them right back, otherwise ignored.
