1970 Duster base model slant 6 rear differential 2070051 spider kit

My Mopar rear axle dimension guide says yours should be about 57.5 drum to drum which is what I have. All 63-72 had that meas. on A body cars.

All 65 to 72 a body’s had factory 4 inch bolt circle, even the 8-3/4 axle. It’s probable that someone had swapped a late model rear into the duster you had gotten the rear axle from, though. I had to do that on my first ‘71, I got the donor from a ‘74 valiant four door with disc brakes on the front. It was a six cylinder car and had wider drums on the back, but I don’t remember the diameter. But it was still a nine bolt cover. The outside stud width and spring pad widths were identical.

Thank you sir. If you get to it measure the drum to drum for total width. The 43" ctr to ctr for the springs is correct to my needs.. I'm sure thinking about it. You'll have TO HAVE AN OLD WIRE BRUSH TO SEE THE CASTING #. Should be on the lower right center casting not on the axle housing. Thanks again.[/QUOTE

Had to go out to the business so I went by the hangar again and looked at the rear end again. Scraped and brushed some more. No luck on a number. No number on the axles either. It is measuring 51” from drum plate to drum plate.

The distance of "track" on this differential is 55.6 inches, distance from center to center of the drums (or wheels). I believe it has a 3:23 gear in it.

Things worked out with the Ebay seller but this is good info to have on my board when the owner brings it back again which is almost certain. Im still brooding over Norms offer on that Barracuda rear end. That higher rear gear would make a difference in this car. Thanks for your help. Yall taught me a lot in 4 days!

A new cut to fit Ford 9"rear end w/driveshaft is over $3000 or more now & she just can't afford that right now. Joel
Just a FYI:
A 8 inch Ford rear from a early Mustang, Comet, and some others, with the (V-8) 5 on 4.5 bolt circle, is a 90 percent bolt in swap. Don't even need to change the drive shaft, just a conversion U-Joint, or (what I would do) have the Ford "ears" put on the Mopar drive shaft. Then just use a stock Ford U-joint.

And that mustang/falcon 8 inch ford is a much more durable rear axle, too. Several people on the those forums running upwards of 450-500 hp with them before having to go to a 9 inch. But the five lug is usually harder to find and pricier than the four lug, too. The four lug straight six units were fairly affordable the last time I checked, but I cringe at running wheel adapters on anything larger than a cheap lawn tractor.
