Im doing the same build with a 78 440 with stock flat top pistons wich are about .150 down and using 440 source heads that have been mildly ported, still don't know what cam im going to use.

Do you need longer conrods to pull the piston up the block??

If i was going to over bore I'd just get taller compression height pistons.

Ok thanks need to do the maths work out what my exact cr is on standard engine then choise heads to go with. After this i guess i can work out what high pistons i will need.

Looking yo get arou d 9.5 t0 10 comp

Are they dished or flat tops?
Not ordered any yer.

Currently have flat top pistons with 2 very small cut outs on edge thst sit low own at TDC

Pic below is current piston

Not getting there with stock pistons, im not worried about the compression it's not all that important for a street car I'd rather have flowing heads.

Building mine as street strip car but want to run a tunnel ram some times so need desent cr

Then you'll need pistons, doesn't make sense to change the rod length with stock pistons while it's apart get speed pro other pistons when it's apart.

You should PM IQ52. Old school builder specializing in hi performance low compression motors. Very impressive results.

this was the combo in my 70 Dart before I put my 451 in car weighed 3000 with me in it
1976 RV 440 like new
516 heads 214/181 and a lot of port work
purple shaft .590 cam
torker 2 intake 750DP holley
3800 stall converter and 456 gears 29 inch tire went 11 flat 119 mph i think it could of went tens with bigger carb

'69 Cuda, not exactly rv low comp but around 9.5>10:1 446ci, 6-pk rods/pistons (2000gms per hole!!), BV 906's@around 260cfm, 850DP, 3250lbs all in, comp. .650"- 290@.050 sft, 4800stall, 4.88's/32" tyre...10.7@125=523fwhp.

Up your cr to 10:1, (L2355's or KB's) TF240 top end kit and 550hp+ on tap.

What is l2355s or kb is tjat relating to pistons??

I don't think he specialized in low compression builds. He did some testing with camshafts, intake/carbs and ported vs unported heads on low compression engines.
He provided dyno #'s during the process.
FYI The last we heard, he is retired and gone hunting.
